You may want to try straying at the point were the air vent connects to the lower side of the speedo trim. Use your fingers to slowly but deliberately pull the trim toward you. Once a piece pops up, move further down and continue to pull. There are larger clips on the speedo ring that are more difficult to pop out. The same thing goes when reinstalling. Line up the larger clips and make sure they seat before popping in the smaller clips. For the chrome, I just taped them off since there is actually separation between the paint and chrome pieces.

When I tried to remove "Mickey" the bottom popped loose fine, but once I started getting toward the top progress stopped and it felt binded up like I was missing removing a screw. any tips? I removed the a pillars and side plastic for the side vents, but again even after taking the torks screws out it felt like I was missing something because it would wiggle but would not come out. You make it sound fairly easy but removing oem/ installing jcw front lip was easier that removing these vent trim rings

The speedo trim does not have any screws. Just clips. Try pulling straight toward you at a 10 and 2 position. That should release the larger clips which are tighter. The outer vent trim pieces (near the doors) are the ones that are a lot of work. You need to remove the a pillar trim, the lower dash trim (panel underneath the steering wheel and glove compartment), trim finish pieces , finish pieces on sides of air vents and finally the airvents. Look back at my previous post and see if it makes more sense.

Thank you Bmtespar for responding. I took off everything on the side vents but the lower dash. That must have been the issue. As for Mickey I'll just pull harder under his ears. I'm guessing the hazard light is not attached. I would hate to crack something.

The hazard button is attached to the trim. There is a short bit of wiring so be careful not to pull out to hard. Remember, slow and deliberate pulling all around the trim. Once you remove the trim piece you can unplug the hazard switch and the release it from the trim piece by pressing the two tabs holding it into place.

thank you Bmtespar for the help!! i got mickey done yesterday now i have to tackle those side vents again, any info/tips for those would be much appreciated. like what lower dash are you talking about removing, and do you have to do it on the glovebox side? i went with gunmetal to match the accent trim. it should have come this way to begin with. in the picture you can see the side vent is not done yet.

Looks good! Congrats! The side vents are a lot more work. When I am referring to the lower dash, I am referring to the dash trim below the steering wheel just above your knees and on the other side the glove box. The steering wheel sides is just held on at the top by clips which can be poped out on both sides of the steering wheel. The glove box has some screws holding it in place at the top part of the trim when you open the glove box. Neither of these pieces have to be fully removed, just pulled down far enough to access the screw on each part of the vent trim.

three more picks. Mickey only has clips, so be careful to pop one at a time. inch around with your fingers, once you can get them in there. airbag decal on A-post covers its torks. side and lower panels clips only. torks at top of glove box x3 and passenger x2 side reveals the hidden torks i could not find before. one torks on top and 2 on side and that hidden one on the bottom and walla its off and ready to mask off and paint.

Can you explain how to take off the "Mickey Mouse" trim ring and the air conditioning vent rings. I am a little confused on how to take them off. Can you also show / explain where the clips are located?

Did you also have someone paint your trim rings? Or was it DIY?

Thanks!

There is a small lip around 4/5 and 7/8 o'clock positions on Mickey. Start there and use you fingers/pry tool to get that clip to release. From there it's easy sailing. Just work you fingers around the outside edge of Mickey popping the clips loose. That's it, the hazard button is attached to Mickey so be careful not to yank Mickey off when your done. I painted mine myself
