mpg of runflat vs regular radial tires

Hello all,

Each day I drive 130 miles with cpu registering about 33mpg with original runflat tires.... As I was drive home today I wondered about mpg differences if I had regular radial tire. For those of you who has changed from RFlat to Regular, do you see increase in mpg? I believe it should since the RF is heavier than radial?

When I switched, I went with tires with more grip (summer vs all-season) and slightly wider (205 v 195). I actually saw a decrease in mileage. So it seems the impact of those two factors was more than any improvement from having a lighter tire.

All else being equal, I would guess you would see an improvement. Don't think it is going to be that much though.

I switched to Michelins after an irreparable flat. I really didn't notice much of a difference in mpg (before and after i was still in the 38-40 mpg range) but definitely recognized a significant increase in performance and ride quality with the new tires
