Unhappy Any Ideas?

So, I posted Sunday that my 3 mo. Old Countryman died and was towed to dealership. It turns out is a fuel pressure switch problem. They found a part in Germany today, but it will take at least a week to get here so today I had a friend drive me the 45 mins to the dealership to pick up the loaner.

They gave me a 2010 clubman, which is fine...no complaints. I drove this afternoon and tonight met a friend for dinner...no problems. I got home, parked in the garage, turned off the car and now the key will not come out of the ignition. The car will go I to the mode where the lights and radio come on, but the engine will not start.

I found a post where this happened due to a terminal popping off the battery post, but I checked and that's not my issue. There is no manual in the car for assistance. I called roadside assistance and they tried to troubleshoot but nothing worked.

Now, the courtesy vehicle is scheduled to be towed tomorrow!

Any ideas? I would really love to avoid this hassle again if anyone has suggestions! I feel like there may be an easy fix that I'm missing here...

Thanks in advance!

Something similar happened to me once in a Mazda 3. What happened to me is I had turned off the car and turned the steering wheel so it was locked and then when I tried to pull the key out of the ignition it was stuck! What I ended up doing was moving the locked wheel within it's range of play and that released the key. Don't know if that might work in your case or not or if you've already tried that. But maybe it'll help!

Is the car definitely in park? The key won't release if you still have it in gear.

Chrunck--you were right. My husband figured out this am it wasn't all the way in park! I feel really bright about right now! Just glad it wasn't another tow!

I didn't really want to ask, because some people get mad when you ask really simple questions.

Glad it was an easy fix.
