Here's the best part of this whole deal. My friend sent me a link to Bank of America's website, the page listing Auto Loan rates. Their off the street rate on 61+ month financing is 2.9 and he told me dealerships get lower than that.

This dealer told me BoA came back @ 3.45 with my high 700's beacon score.

My friend said "They put a point on it... the F&I guy was willing to let you walk because he wasn't going to make anything off of you @ 2.5%"

Needless to say I'm furious.

That is frustrating. I am a finance manager for a motorcycle dealership and our job is to make money buy selling warranty, extend service plans and holding points. 2% upsell is legal in MD.
With a strong credit score like yours its best to walk in with your own financing set up. Local credit unions are the best solution usually. I just landed 3.29 x 72 and they allowed me to match the sale price funds in a money market and they are paying me 3% per month! So I have a .29% loan..
Not every person will walk into deals like that but you know what you have before you walk into the dealershit.. More leverage for you..

That's just it, I KNEW I could get 2.5% and they tried to leverage me into just "doing the deal" because I'd been sitting there 2+ hours and "there's no way he'll walk TWICE." Wrong.

I just got a call from the negotiator and she was shocked at the whole story. I told her this dealer was going to have to do something realllly special for me to come back today.

We learned a long time ago to walk in with our financing pre-approved and ready to roll. 75% of the time, they find a way to beat our best deal.

Have you thought of getting the BOA loan yourself and then seeing what the MINI dealership will do for you for your troubles? Usually free accessories are an easy option for them - floor mats, tshirts, license plate holder, etc.

It's not much, but at least you have your car, the correct interest rate, and a few "extras". (And you save yourself a drive to the other dealership.)

The issue is THEY can do it for me but apparently won't. At this point it's the principal of the thing. Sure I could do it myself and buy the car from them, but then they win. Yes I'm probably being petty, but at this point I don't want to do them any favors...

I did the BoA auto loan setup online and my dealer had a "special relationship" with BoA. I got the 2.5% and printed out the pre-approval - beat the dealer's arrangements and greatly shortened that part of the process. Of course, that also extended the warranty/service/protection options part of the process for hours as the finance guy worked on meeting his profit center expectations.

Trying dealer #2 since the GM at dealer #1 still couldn't hit the number we agreed to initially. Let's see what happens.

Congrats!! Glad you got your car and yes, we need pics!! I've been following your experience as we'll be picking our car up in the next week or so. We're driving 2 hours to our dealership too.

I've seen the pics of your mods, Tacoman. Awesome job!!

When I saw pictures, I definitely wasn't a fan of the Countryman, but in real life, I was hooked. For me, it still drives like a MINI, but gives me the added features of 4 doors (have a 9 year old boy that is growing like a weed) and extra hauling space.

The perfect test was the "grin factor" - I still have a grin everytime I get in the car. And for me, that says it all.
I feel the same way about my countryman. BUT if the clubman had a REAL passenger side back door, instead of that stupid jump door, I would have had a clubman instead. better size. Mini-ier.

Pictures ASAP as it has been raining here all day every day for the last week or so...

Funny thing, when the detailer dropped the car off for delivery he remarked to my salesperson that the car has the "chrome trim issue." It blew their minds when I told them I knew what it was and that a fix is due out this month thanks NAM

Dont know where you are..... We like MINI of Mainline in Phila. There are two other dealerships within the same distance from our home, in fact the other two are a few miles closer, but they dont have the same great attitide towards customers.
