Ours did not come with one and I don't think there is one for the iPhone 4 yet.

not for me it didn't, the iphone cradle is available but comes in two versions one which is basically just a phone connection, the other is the full fat version which also lets you play music through it, this one is on backorder, which is the excuse my dealer has.

If you have the I Phone 3G there is one. There are 3 different cradles for the I Phone 4. In the arm rest console is the base plate were the cradles snap in.
As KiwiRob mentioned 2 are out, but the one that should do everything the supplied Y cable does is not out yet. Said to be available sometime this summer according to my parts manager who forwarded an email to me from Mini USA.
The believed price is to be closer to $200. BMW has it's own cradles... But is a complete different part number. There have been several posts/threads about the cradle, part #'s, and issues if you search them. I have a few pictures in my gallery showing the plate were the long awaited cradle will snap into and then your I phone.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I guess I will wait for the iPhone 4 cradle that that allows for phone use, but also music playback. I dont see that point of the making phone calls but not being able to take advantage of Mini Connect through the cradle (Unless I am misunderstood).

Just read this in 2nd generation
The "new" adapter 84 212 199 393 is available but NOT fully functioning! Do not waste your time and money. It basically functions exactly as the 390 part number that others have tried on the BMW side but ~$50 less. This new adapter is actually not as nice as it does not have the integrated cooling fan. You will also notice that it is labeled "MUSIC" as opposed to "MEDIA" on the 390. The enclosed instruction manual is quite clear in its description that it is only for playing music. It makes no claims as to its ability to support video of any kind. I have no idea why the dealer in an earlier post was claiming that this one would be fully functioning.
Here is what it does do:
1.) Plays music using the ipod function and the native Mini interface with cover art
2.) All of the miniconnected features with the exception of the "plug in"
3.) Does support Pandora with cover art
4.) No apparent Bluetooth quirks as others have observed on the 390 (although admittedly I personally did not observe any issues with the 390 in the short period of time I used it)
Here is what it does NOT do:
1.) NO video option from the ipod using the native Mini interface
2.) NO compatible "plug in" found under Mini Connected so you are unable to use the snazzy ipod native interface.
It appears to me that the basic underlying problem here is the inability to support video through the armrest cradle. I am guessing that the A/V plug under the center console is the ONLY way into the video head of the NAV system. Just a guess….. This would also explain its inability to support the "plug in" option, which essentially uses the ipod "tv out".
For the time being, I have elected to embrace this new adapter as continuing to use the "Y" cable just irritates me. When I attempt to use it to view a music video, the audio and video are so horribly out of sync that it is nauseating to watch. Kind of like you are watching an old Godzilla movie from the 70's. It is really a cool idea and you would love to show it off to your friends but then find yourself embarrassed to do so. I assumed that this sync issue stems from the fact that the audio is being transmitted via USB and the video through a separate cable. At first this did not bother me as I assumed that the new "fully functioning" cradle would correct this shortcoming but alas it addresses it fully by simply disabling it entirely.
So I guess in summary, if you like ALL of the various functions, you are just going to have to stick with the stupid "Y" cable and own up to the fact that we were all succors in insisting on having smart phone integration, the armrest, and the various cradles that we have all had to endure. Buy hey, you are not alone! Perhaps we should start a support group. I apologize for the long post but I felt that all of you deserved to have all the gory details before making the same mistakes that I have made.

Another newbie to MINI. Just got a 2011 Countryman about two weeks ago and have been chasing this snap-in adapter for the armrest down. Got one from the dealer and it does not work -- part number 84 21 2 158 683 (would display song title from iphone 3GS but no audio). Found out Friday that there is a new "Media" snap-in adapter needed for the 2011 with Mini Connected. Supposed to do everything the Y-cable does plus the mini connect app features. Part number is 84 21 2 218 391. It lists for like $250. Works with both iPhone 4/3GS. Has anyone else heard of this? I would love to be able to use the snap-in adapter instead of tethering the iphone to the short Y-cable -- just trying to find out more information before I shell out $250. Thanks! (I sent a message to the mini support page but zero response from them.)

As they don't list a part number, it's hard to verify, but based on the description, this item has been on their site for "quite a while". The pessimist in me thinks this is the BMW cradle with the word "Media" stamped on it that others have already commented isn't fully functional...
Hope I'm wrong.

True…the last one of the (3) I tried was with the fan and media printed as well.
It's only a description, but does state everything we have been waiting for. Sent them an email..as well as my parts manager..see what come of it.

Bump. Hey Flyer, any news on the cradle from the British source? Just curious...Originally Posted by Flyer53

They emailed me saying it was the latest and listed all the features. A member on this forum from the UK commented saying they have that cradle it does not work all as stated. My service manager was not able to get anything positive from the higher to be's. So it's back to the waiting game. IOS5 gets released next month... And sure sounds like we'll see the # 5 phone before year end.

I still don't see why MINI won't restore the firmware on the Connected to the pre March build date version. At least you can use the y cable for everything.Originally Posted by Flyer53

so , if im reading this correctly, the you tube videos of the countryman playing video on the display is from the y-cable only? what connects the armrest cradle with the connected? the y-cable appears to look like a usb and audio/video combo cable. can you not just buy longer usb and audio/video cables to have more length to work with?

the armrest has its own wiring. You could get an extension and put the phone in there, but I wouldn't see much of a point. Someone used the sunglass holder as a phone case with an extension.Originally Posted by countryman-s

Video can only be displayed while parked. And most people, if not all, have audio/video sync problems. So the mouths moving don't match what you hear.

I have and you can purchase extensions for the supplied mini Y cable.
It's actually the mini plug that provides the video... USB is just for charging if I remember right. The RCA cable needs 3 rings on the male end. Don't have the exact name/syle number in front of me. The cradle by passes the need for the Y cable and the I phone snaps into it...also keeps it out of sight as well.

the videos on you tube of the countryman playing video is in sync. is the video/voice out of sync a common problem or related to the file played?
5th Gear
I have had no problems... Then again there has been little time for me to sit in my Countryman stopped with E brake engaged and view music videos. I have plenty of them and enjoy viewing them via my I phone / I pad. Would of not been a deal breaker if not offered. But since it was/is offered it should by all means be working correctly!

Email received this morning in regards to the IPhone 4 Cradle they are advertising.
The snap in adapter does not provide for video functions on the screen, all
it does is charge it and play the ipod through the radio.

What I found interesting is the audio quality from the snap in adapter is much better than the audio quality from the y cable, the sound I get from the Y cable is terrible, anyone else noticed that.

I didn't hold on to the cradles I tried long enough to hear the difference. I think very few are using any cradle at the moment. KiwiRob…is yours for the 3G or 4 I phone ? Do you remember ant of the part #'s ?
