Break in period question

Hi All,

I have 682 miles on the car right now and need to make a 600 mile trip next week to see the folks. How should I go about it during the break in period. It was reccomended to me to break in at variable speeds. So I assume no cruise control but some driving 55 to 75 is ok for an extended period?

Thanks,

Bill

That's what I did. I also alternated between 5th & 6th gears from time to time.

The dealer told me it was ok to use cruise control. I set the speed anywhere from 65 to 70 and used the steering automatic shifter to move between 4th to 5th to 6th every 30 seconds or so. It was a drag and killed gas mileage, but got the job done. I did this on the Los Angeles area freeways during the early evening and early morning. Took me about two weeks.

I guess my break in method is a little different, I just thrash the crap out of all my cars from the get go, never had any mechanical problems at all.

Yup, you would think it a little extreme. However, the rpms never got above 4200 or so, and I spent most of the time in the higher two gears. Plus, I bounced it off the dealer before doing this and they were good to go. The engine used no oil during this. So, go figure.

Kitebeach, Before this thread dies you're going to have as many ideas as there are responders. Therefore, I won't offer one in order to make the previous sentence erroneous.
