And yes you do have to activate them..I guess they wanted to offer option of just using the manual positions as well. I would not want the wipers to be on all the time, especially in the winter. The last thing I would want is to have my blades try to swipe 2-3 inches of crusty snow off my windshield automatically and not control it's functions.
There are 2 Navys in this thread, the OP and the last one you replied too. His wipers are correct and no need for service, it appears as if the OP figured it out. There is no need for high wiper speed when stopped, thus MINI slows the speed of the wipers down when you stop. High goes to low, low goes to intermittent when you come to a stop; this is SOP.

NavyNuke,

Yes, even with rain sensor wipers you still need to activate the wipers when it starts to rain. After initially activating, the wipers work off the sensor as far as wiper speed. You wouldn't want your wipers to initially activate on their own with the rain sensor ioption. For example, you wouldnt want your wipers to automatically activate when going through a car wash.

yetti96..I must be crazy..because mine do not work that way..once the sensor are activated the speed is dependent on the amount of the rain…and in the manual mode they move at the 2 different speeds I set it at. Doesn't matter if it's in the garage or out in the sunshine. Could it be that those w/o the sensor, there manual wipers are controlled differently ?
