Dealer Install Accessories

I'm pricing out several different options on a new countryman, and really loving playing with the configurator. After talking with the salesperson at our local dealership it seems the installed price of some of the accessories is pretty silly. For example; I thought for $25 the grocery bag holder might be nice to have. Then when I asked for a full quote of that option it came to $90.45 which seems a little silly to me. From the picture it looked like something i could install in 10 minutes... now maybe the installation is a bit more substantial than that but with some of the accessories I wonder if it would be worth a few bucks in my pocket to install them myself. Specifically I'm thinking about the roof rack base and the roof box.

I'm curious if anyone has gotten those options and if you could envision what level of effort they would take to install. From photos the roof rack base appears to just attach to to the roof rails via brackets and then since the roof box is a removable item you'd have to be able to install it yourself...

Now with all that said, will the dealer forgo installation if I request it that way? Can I order these parts after receiving the car and pick them up to install myself?

The misses is concerned that this car is out of our price range so I'm trying to cut corners where I can to get the cost down, please let me know if this is all crazy talk!

Generally, technical and/or integrated items (xenon lights, nav, adaptive lights) are going to be most feasable and cost-effective when ordered from the factory. Add on stuff (stripes, driving lights, some chrome trim, etc) can be added on after delivery by whomever you want to do it. You can also order from any source, so shop around. The caveats would be if you are leasing and the car cannot be returned to stock on turn in or if you do something that would affect the warranty.

There are a few people on here who got the roof rack that could comment. I seem to remember it was super easy to install everything yourself.

I couldn't even imagine someone needing another to install a roof rack (unless they were handicap), it's a five minute job. Not to mention it's not something you should keep on all the time as it does hurt fuel consumption, so realistically I would remove it any time it's not in use. ( and I do with my other cars).
