Wow, I have no idea what all this is -- it's like a foreign language to me.

I just want to know when there'll be aftermarket clutch kits available.

We've got a ton of CM parts available. Many parts interchange with the R56, but not all.

I don't know the technical background behind all these mods, but maybe someday I'll bring my car to one of these shops with a budget and just say, "make it faster".

I think what would be worth it right now, however, is a better clutch system, and something that would decrease the turbo lag and not have any adverse effects.

I highly recommend the NM torque arm insert. Costs 60 bucks and makes the clutch feel 10 times better. Check it out!

Easy to install? Special tools needed?

The insert is easy to install, but takes a bit for the tight fit.

Can you tell us more? Size? Mandrel bends? Stainless? Did you get the mileage improvements they claim?

I alway wondered if the insert was only beneficial for those with manual transmissions. Did you notice a benefit, threar?

Just a ratchet and a couple sockets. A pry bar is handy as well, because you have to pry the engine out of the way to get it back in. A third arm comes in handy, but I managed it by using one of my feet.

By stiffening up the OEM bushing, more engine vibration is felt in the cab, which allows you to not feel so disconnected from the car. I was surprised at how much easier it is to feel the clutch engage point.

I don't know if I'd want more engine vibration and/or noise to be felt in the cab.
Things vibrate enough with the run flats and sport suspension I have.

Yup, I've noticed a difference, especially under heavy acceleration. Like was mentioned, there is more engine vibration but nothing unbearable (and I like the added growl).

So the NM Torque arm insert is a cast metal piece with a plastic (or is that polyurethane) bushing? I'd prefer machined. Where does it go -- underneath the motor?

It's polyurethane. It goes under the motor, here's a pic from my car.

The insert consists of two poly pieces that you insert into the OEM part. The metal part in the picture is already on your car.

Personally, I think it should have come from the factory this way. I hate how "refined" the newer MINIs are compared to the 1st Gen R50/R53s. I prefer feeling feedback from the engine, even if it means a little more vibration/noise in the cockpit. But I guess since I mainly see old ladies driving MINIs these days, I'm not the target demographic.

Thanks. All I've really heard is people saying they feel more vibration, which, as far as I can tell, is only regarded as a benefit because it helps manual drivers anticipate when they need to shift, something that is obviously of little benefit to us.

Do any of these mods violate the warranty on a new mini? If so, then what type of mods do not. For instance do custom cosmetic mods like stripes or carbon mini scuttles violate the warranty?
