R60 Purchase Price Relative to MSRP
Im in AZ and we only have 2 dealers... we got 1650 off MSRP w 489 or 499 Dealer doc fees... just gotta catch em at the right time. I went in there for parts for my 03, and it was 7pm, last day of the month and they had 99 cars sold that month... so the added dealer motivation (usually outside our control) was there. The real discount was Costco which they were able to offer on the Countryman, invoice + 1250, which wound up to be 1650 off.
Go through carsdirect.com and bypass all the dealer bullsh!t. Pretty hassle free and the only way I roll when buying new cars...
Are you sure Mini of Concord will give $1500 off on a Countryman? I talked with them 2 weeks ago; they were asking for a dealer mark-up OVER MSRP.
CarsDirect could only offer MSRP locally. However I could get $1,000 off MSRP from Southern California dealers, which includes $500 transportation (or I could pick it up in Southern California and pocket the $500).
Locally I could get $500 through the COSTCO program, but I also heard Mini San Diego offers the full COSTCO program (remember, COSTCO is based in San Diego).
The best deal I found locally so far was the $1,000 through the "Rock the Rivals" program. It sounds like that program has many strings attached, so I may just postpone buying a Mini.

Between hearing about having to wait for 2012s and no MINI connecteds available, I'm kind of
right now

though they are now out of issaquah instead
After being told they only sold for MSRP, I checked out PenFed. Armed with numbers, I started calling around. Three different dealers, three different states. By comparing offers, i was able to negotiate with the dealership closest to home. Adjustments on their fees and a discount = $1150 off MSRP. It's not the best discount out there, but I'm a happy girl. Mine's currently in the buffet line on the COURAGE.
Good work!. I went to my dealer with the PenFed 2.49%. The dealer had originally offered around 3.8%. Eventually, they came down to 2.5% which I accepted to keep things simple and get reimbursed the so called " disposition fee" for return of my BMW leased car. The disposition fee is waved if you finance your next car with BMW. I could not play different MINI dealers against each other, as we only have one in the area.

Please clarify your numbers and did you go through carsdirect.com? I see that Carsdirect.com doesnt have the good deal it had last month through Concord Mini. :(
No CarsDirect. I just set my price and called the few dealers we have in the Bay Area.
When you all talk about off MSRP, does that exclude Tax, Title and license?
I like to to negotiate OTD.
I got my figure by guessing it would be $3000 for TAx Title and License.
So I got the car for $27500.
Sorry... Mines is not a Countryman!!!

Which dealers in so cal? I went to long beach and they only said $500 off.
Wow that's a great price! Was this off a in-stock Countryman or for a custom order? I'll have to give them a call.
We pretty much paid exactly MSRP, plus taxes and doc fees. Doc fees were about 40 bucks. Sales tax sucked at nearly 10 percent, but that's California for you. It's sad that I'm willing to settle for MSRP these days, but the last two cars we bought have been "hot" new cars in short supply that we had to wait for.
Our dealer, BMW of SF, does try to markup the cars, however. They wanted $999 for a base Countryman, and $1998 on the Countryman All4s. We managed to get them to agree to drop the $999 markup fee when we first ordered the car. However, when we went to pickup of the car, the fee was back. Produced the paperwork showing the agreed upon price and they subsequently backed off on the fee. They did try to sell us the overpriced extended warranty, tire replacement package, and interior/exterior "protection" package. We passed on those. Even though we had financing available from our credit unions, they still insisted on shopping the loan. Which is fine, since they matched what the credit unions said they would do. A little less paperwork and hassle.
If I was buying a car off the lot, I *might* be willing to pay some markup, especially for a hot new car. But if I'm coming into the dealership with a specific configuration in mind and have pretty much committed to buying the car, then the dealership really isn't entitled to any markup. The car is basically sold as soon as it hits the dealership's lot. There's no short-term financing the deal has to float until the car is actually sold.
For those people who are getting it under MSRP, is that before any extra fees are tacked on, like advertising, for instance?

Who did you talk to and what did you get? I talked to Mark and he wasn't very negotiable other than the $500 costco discount.
I've talked to every dealer in the SF Bay Area in the last week or so and several out of state. I get the impression that the stock situation has rapidly changed over the last 2 wks or so. Dealers that seemed interested in negotiating before are now saying that demand is outstripping supply and they don't see a need to deal. Might be related to the Rivals event coupon, component shortages in Japan or pending changeover to 2012 model year, but for whatever reason I think it's harder to get anything below MSRP now. Several Bay Area dealers are showing $1-2K markup on the cars they have on the lot. One dealer also said that other dealers are less likely to trade for cars given this context, so if you find a car you like you might have to go directly to the dealer who has it rather than trading for it via your local/preferred dealer.
To Mojito: Here are my numbers. As configured per my specs, the PenFed report indicated Dublin, OH would sell at $1800 above invoice. I made a call to Midwestern MINI. They will indeed sell at that fabulous price IF you buy off the lot (one that has been on the lot better than 30 days). On special orders, they offered $750 off MSRP. They charge only a $250 documentation fee & NO prep fee. MINI of Nashville would only offer me $500 off a custom build. They had $414.50 worth of fees. Back home, MINI of Louisville had the highest fees: $359 dealer prep fee & $189 licensing fee = $548. I contacted Louisville with the numbers of the surrounding dealerships. They answered back that they would match Ohio's offer & throw in mats. They were so true to their word, they not only gave me the $750 discount, but credited me the difference in fees! Here's my build:
2011 ALL4, manual, absolute black/white roof; anthracite headliner; cold, convenience, premium & sport packages; adaptive light control; sport stripes & black jack roof graphic. That's a $33,657.04 MSRP configuration. With taxes and reduced paperwork fee, I came in at $35,856.08.
Basically, I got $750 off MSRP, free rubber mats & an additional $300 savings on fees. My savings might have been higher had i practiced a bit of patience and negotiated further. Hope that's the numbers you were looking for. Good luck and happy hunting, er, driving...

$1800 over invoice? If so, I probably should have practiced my negotiating skills a little longer. All told, i am happy with just getting something off MSRP.
I hear that! I was ecstatic to even be able to negotiate on a special order. Back in the day when we ordered our 06 JCW, it was MSRP or nothing. I don't even rememeber getting free floormats
