Cool Park Distance Control Visual Feedback

I keep finding nice little things I didn't know about when I ordered.

I'd not see it referenced anywhere, but in addition to the audio feedback you get from the Park Distance Control, with MINI Connected, you also get a visual representation of what is behind you. I snapped this shot with the iPhone. Pretty cool!

Yes, but you have to park it under black lights. I've not found a way to change the colors. Purple is my least favorite color. Oh well... At least I'm not backing into things. ;-)

I don't think so, because you need the parking sensor in the bumper. Plus I think you need nav, and not just connected.

Nope, it can be install later but it is cheaper when order it together with your Countryman.

Lenmonster: you don't need Nav to have the Backup sensor but Connected is required.

Sweet! We got the rear backup thing along with Navi/Connected. So does the little strip of red mean you are getting really close to something? Just trying to figure out what that picture actually shows. Thanks!

We have it too and it is cool. Screen switches fairly quickly when you go into reverse. Red means you better stop. Audible tone volume is adjustable too.

Yes Connected is required if you want the visual display but I think you can order the the option without Connected and just get the audible alerts. No prerequisites are noted in the Order Guide.

To add after the fact would probably be prohibitively expensive: sensors, bumper cover, wiring harness, controller, and so forth. Way more than the $500 option price.

Back up sensors are one of those little things that you get addicted to. I've added them to several vehicles that did not offer them from the factory. You can get a basic set up - without the fancy graphics - for $100 on up. Install takes a little time and patience, but they work well. I couldn't live with out them.

Red means you're within 12 inches of the obstacle. Yellow, IIRC correctly is 18" and green is 24". This is standard stuff on the BMWs with iDrive so I'm not surprised they carried it over. I believe it was all in the manual for my M3.

I love PDC! (visual or not) ... Already a small car but when people see you parallel park in 5 seconds... :-)

I must add that rearward visibility is a bit limited in the Countryman, particularly with the rear seat headrests. I wish the passenger side mirror had an automatic dipping function when the reverse is engaged.

You know, it's amazing how many options I WISH I had gotten and figured it out after it was too late. In all honesty I hadn't paid enough attention to what I truly would find helpful with daily driving. This would have been one thing. One crunched bumper would cost way more than this thing.

That is a tremendously neat little gizmo, but since I have to parallel park about once a year, if that, I'll pass if I end up ordering. Tempting though...

We decided to go with it so there is less of a chance to back over a small child.

I think the graphic is pretty neat also but question its usefulness when I'm looking out the back window
