First post ...

Hey folks.

I have been a fan of the Mini since the 1970's. I've always liked small cars and my first was a 1966 MGB. I drove small cars until I got married, had kids and needed a real back seat.

Well, its now 16 years later and I am going to give my Accord to my daughter and finally buy myself a MINI. I have been lusting after them ever since the re-introduction and have configured mine about a gazillion times. I'm going to order an R56 this month with the premium package, the sports package, chrome line exterior, white turn signals, leather seats, brushed alloy interior surface, leather steering wheel, chrome exhaust tips and carpet mats ...the only thing I can't decide on is the darned color! Although, I am leaning towards Chili Red with black top/mirrors and black bonnet stripes.

I do have one question. One of the things that is very important to me is the way the exhaust sounds. I've driven a 2006 and really liked the combination of the sound of the engine and the tuneful exhaust. I've read that the 2007 will sound different. Can anyone shed some light on this? Also, has anyone put an aftermarket exhaust on their R56 to get a sportier sound?

Thanks.

Dean.

Welcome to NAM..... :-)

Welcome Dean, are you getting a Copper S or a regular Cooper? My guess is they will both sound somewhat different from each other, turbo vs no-turbo. Not too much info about the R56 yet, but there is more here every day. Your questions may be answered better in the R56 forum.

The R56 has a different engine sound as it has a turbo not a supercharger. The exhaust note is best described as "rorty". This is refined at speed but gives plenty of aural sensation when it is pushed.

The spec the are ordering sounds good, obviously Astro Black is the best colour.

Oh, and welcome to NAM by the way.

I forgot to add ...

I forgot to add that I am ordering an S, with a manual transmission ...pretty important stuff to have left out.

I've read that the turbo sounds different than the supercharger and am hoping it sounds "sporty" ...of course, that is a matter of opinion.

So, it sounds "rorty" ...I can't wait to find out what that means!

Thanks for the replies.

Dean.

rorty - boisterous and high-spirited.

It has a snarl with less exhaust popping than the previous model.

Welcome to NAM, Reelsmith.
As for what we know about the R56, the answer is quite a bit. But very few actually have seen or heard it in real life. You'll have to wait a few more weeks for that. Having said that, I'm sure it will sound "appropriate" as the sounds our cars make is part of the sensations that our cars are known for so I'm sure the designers at BMW/MINI have paid great attention to that detail.

Sorry...I think I've just told you nothing in particular.

Welcome, anyways

Welcome to NAM reelsmith. I think that the color that you need to get is one that YOU like the best for your MINI. I am partial to BRG = British Racing Green, however, I also like some of the other colors. Black is always good as is the CR/B combo. My son likes the MY/B combo, just get the color that speeks to you.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Welcome to NAM! I own a 02 Liquid Yellow/White MINI. Unfortunately that color has been discontinued. It's hard to pick a color, Mini has so many that's awesome. I like the combo you seem to have picked out though. Happy Motoring!
