New to this ,need advice on ecu units

Ive just gotton started on my 03 Mini S. Ive bought a smaller pully for the supercharger, a new air intake, and a cat back exhaust. All these things I think are worth the money I spent but I'm not sure of spending the money on a ecu unit. Id like to know the advantages and disadvantages, what kind of power gains I could expect and how these things affect the life of the motor. Also if one brand is better than the other and if the service support exsists after you spend the money. Thanks for any help and advice I can get.

Ok well my oppinion is Unichip. A lot of people run it and it has been proven, its a piggy back system so you dont need to remove and send in your ECU to get flashed (creating down time for the MINI) and the dealer will never know you had any sort of ECU as you can remove it prior to dealership visits. As you get more mods you can get your Unichip updated with what you change. And if there is a Unichip tuner in yoru area you can get it Dyno tuned. I run the Unichip and can tell you it smoothed out my power quite a bit and increased my MPG slightly.

Lastly if you decide to go the Unichip route I know someone trying to get together a group buy so as soon as they get 10 people then he can get the Unichips for $635 brand new which is about $175 cheaper than anyone else selling it. But I vote in favor of the Unichip myself.

Well...

You can get a JCW ECU upgrade... you just need to know a dealership that will let you upgrade.

Some other popular ones are MTH, ESS...however, they require you send them your current mapping, then they send you back a disk. The bad thing is if something goes wrong, good luck getting help.

Dinan has an ECU upgrade...but typically, they don't piecemeal and try and force you to get their upgrade packages for warranty purposes.

Fireball Tim Racing has just released an ECU upgrade..they're based in southern CA.

The best ECU tuning is done on a dyno...so keep that in mind.

Best of luck!
