How long to wait after order?

Hello Everyone,

I just order a new mini on Oct 17 and got my production number on 19. I checked the status and it is in the order status. How long does it usually take when an order to go to production? You know, I want my mini to be here like yesterday.

Thanks!

Hi and welcome.

I think it depends where you are located. I ordered mine on Sept. 26 and it is still On Order according to MINIUSA. I got my production number like a week after ordering it. My MA told me it would be ready in mid to late december but if i would have gotten a MC i would have gotten it mid to late November. But i went with the MCS instead. I've read here that 1866-ASK-MINI is kept more up to date. MINIUSA.COM still says on order on mine. But ASKMINI says that it is scheduled for production with no confirmed date.

Hope that helped a bit.

I ordered on August 15 and it delivered at 7 weeks on the button. There were two oddities there. Mine was at the plant during the 06 to 07 retooling, so that may have slowed things a bit. But then I was on the Maersk Wind from the UK to the US and it was only 10 days on the water. Distribution center was two days and then two days to the offload point in Ohio. All in all not bad to have a custom built Mini delivered.

We ordered our MINI on August 23, 2006. We just picked it up yesterday (October 21)-it was a long wait, but well worth it.

I ordered June 9 and took delivery August 23. I'm in Phoenix so I'm one of those "west coast" late deliveries. I know people in my support group on the east coast who took delivery 4-6 weeks earlier.

Have you found your Production Week Support Group here?

I ordered my MCS on June 19th and picked it up July 29th, about seven weeks. I got slightly lucky, since my order was placed against a car that was just a few days from entering production. So figure out six weeks from building to delivery. My car went on the long boat ride to San Diego.

Welcome, and good luck on the waiting. I ordered mine on October 7, it is awaiting shipment now. I got my production number the same day, fininshed production on the October 18.
Being on the West Coast makes everything a little longer. I am looking at the first week in December to take delivery.
Hope that helps. Congratulations on your new Mini. How about telling us more, color, packages, S, non-S?

Nice... I just put my order in on October 20th! Hopefully it happens faster than the predicted late December!

I ordered a fully loaded pepper white MC in a NJ dealer. I wanted to have a MCS but my wife said no. For a price, she prefers to have a fully loaded Mini than a partially loaded Mini, and she does not drive a stick. Well, I think I will still enjoy it! It is still on order status

superben, it seems like there are a couple of factors that really influence delivery time:
  • your order might get put in like, "from scratch", or your dealer might be able to pick up an existing order that got canceled before any of the customizations get integrated. this could easily shave weeks off your delivery time; if you got a production number 2 days after ordering, then you may have gotten lucky, and "taken over" an existing car that someone backed out on.
  • Once your car is finished, it has to get loaded onto a ship; some cars are on-board a day after they come off the production line, others, regrettably, are made to wait for days to weeks. :( doesn't seem to be much ryme or reason there.
  • the trip across the atlantic is pretty predictable, from a time perspective.
  • once your baby hits american soil, how far you are from the east coast becomes your next major time sink. your wait could be as quick as 2-3 days if your in the tri-state area, or as long as 2-3 weeks if your elsewhere.
basically, the big variables are time from order to start of production, the time it takes to get a spot on a boat, and the transport time from the vehicle distibution center to your dealer. the actual production time, and the atlantic transport time, are pretty much predictable.

for more stories (some with happy endings, some not so much :( ), read the various production week support group threads. also, check out the stickied threads on "how to track your mini", and "inside the VDC".
