New to NAM

Greetings all! I've motored 43k miles since taking delivery of my '03 MCS in December 2002. The MCS is, by far, my favorite all-around car based on nearly 30 years of driving. Surprisingly, this was my first front-wheel-drive car since I'd previously owned musclecars, BMWs, and a Porsche 930. A few SOLO II races helped get me up to speed in driving a fast front-driver. My intention is to keep the MCS and start modifying it.

Hate to admit it, but I wasn't aware of NAM until I attended the "Mini Takes the States" concert at Centenial Park in Nashville on 8/28. I live 100 miles west of Nashville and had a blast falling in behind four GPs on the way to Nashville. I arrived at 1PM and hung out until 7PM. While I met a lot of great people and learned a lot, I was a bit disappointed by the small crowd... I'd guess under 200 cars were at the park by 7pm. There were almost 500 cars registered for the Memphis-to-Nashville segment and I'd assumed that many more would crash the party.

Glad to be on NAM and look forward to catching up on the posts.

Welcome to NAM! From what I've heard, MTTS is not necessarily a good representation of the folks you'll find here on NAM, or at AMVIV, or The Dragon.

Thanks for the welcome. As a newbie, I'm entitled to at least one dumb question

Why does my account say that I've been a member since June 2002? I joined mini2.com in June 2002 when I ordered my MCS, but don't recall joining anything else. Is (was?) NAM associated with mini2.com?

Welcome to NAM, renaissance! I just sent Dave, a NAM administrator, your question about the join date. I don't know what happened, but glad to see you here! Let's see some pix of your MINI! And be sure to join us at The Dragon!

MINI2 is not affiliated with NAM. You MAY have joined MCO (minicoopersonline), which was NAM's original name. That could explain your join date!

In June 2002, you would have been joining MINI COOPER ONLINE, and it appears that that's just what you did. The name of the site was changed a little later to North American Motoring, but your account would have carried forward with the name change.

Thanks for setting me straight. Looks like I motored away four years ago and forgot all about you folks. I promise not to be gone so long this time.

I live around 6 hours from Deal's Gap and hope to make my first trip to The Dragon soon. Will check the link and forums for more details.

I live on the other side of the country from Deal's Gap and go there 3 times a year! If you're in the neighborhood, I'll be there again with some MINI pals 10/19-10/22.
