Pure Silver - wrong choice? Need assurances!!!
Pure Silver - wrong choice? Need assurances!!!
Hi, my Mini Cooper has already been produced and is waiting to get on a ship. Now I'm having second thoughts about the color!
I ordered a Pure Silver Cooper (no S) with a black top and black mirrors, because this is the color I had always seen and liked. But now, while I'm waiting for it, I am seeing so many other color combinations that I like and I'm beginning to think that Pure Silver is boring.
I don't think I'm a "red" guy, but the red with black top looks nice. I don't like white that much for a car but Mini's Pepper White with a black top is very attractive. I even like the all Space Blue Metallic or all Astro Black, even though I think a contrast roof is part of the charm of most minis. And yes, I realize solid color Minis are somewhat plain in theory, but the darker colors on the Mini look really nice (which I think is why I'm wondering about the light-color Pure Silver).
The other issue is that I really, REALLY like the Dark Silver with white top, but I never even knew about it when ordering because I was only looking at the Cooper, not the MCS. Eventually I saw one and discovered that this is an MCS only color. Now I wish I had ordered a base MCS in this color!
Mine is a pretty base one:
- 5 speed
- premium package *
- leather sport seats *
- anthracite dash and headliner
- arm rest
(* these things are a must)
I'm sure I'll love the little guy, once it gets here, and maybe I'm just having trouble being patient, but I'm feeling like if I'm buying a Mini, I should have gotten something with a little more pizzaz. So far, I haven't even found the Pure Silver Owners club in these threads!
I've been to a few Mini events and there are always one or 2 pure silvers there, but there are also lots of other cool combos.
What should I do? I still have 3-4 weeks of wait time (ugghhhhh!) and I'm sharing cars with family, so I'm sure this is making me more indecisive.
I could:
1) wait till the Pure Silver gets here and see what else my dealer has on the lot that I like and make a decision (right now they have a lot of automatics, and I'm pretty sure I want a manual)
2) see if they can check cars that have been made but not allocated for a MCS dark silver and try to hook it
3) go get something from my dealer in a different color (possibly an automatic) - the problem with this is that the cars are either overloaded with other stuff (and way too expensive) or lack one or two items I really want, like the speedo in the center and sport seats.
4) reorder ! but don't think i can wait this long and it may be too late for a 2006!
5) just be happy with the cool little car that I have ordered and try to wait patiently for it's arrival!
Afterall, I'm lucky to be buying a Mini and having one specially made to my specifications. I can always trade in a few years if I want.
Any thoughts?!
Thanks for listening! I feel crazy for even submitting this post!

Hey Mini_Dreams
Wait on the car. There are many cool color combinations and you happen to have decided on one of them. If the MINI gets in and you just can't stand it it sounds like there are some choices on your dealers lot. I bet when it comes in and you know that is YOUR MINI, you will relax. Color is just a small part of MINI customization. Compared to a darker color, you may find PS looks clean longer between washes

Once it gets here, you will love it. There are things I thought I might want to change, but in the end it's best to go with what you initially liked (just like it's best to go with your 1st choice on a test...)
Mini Dreams,
thanks for posting what I think "most of us" go through while we are waiting and just don't admit it. I thought the same thing during my wait and now that it's done', (just waiting for a boat), I've realized, it was the right thing to do and the options I've selected will be great. I think you will find the same thing as others have said...

Hi Mini dreams... I understand your dilemma. I to had color choice problems. I ordered CR/B. My thinking was that every car I have ever owned was either silver, dark silver or some blue/green combo. So I wanted something with spark. Mind you before I placed the order I was going to buy HB/W. Anyway, at 2am in the morning after I placed my order I had a full panic attack. I woke up, paced, and freaked out about ordering a red car. Finally, after about 30 min I was able to return to bed. When I got up in the morning, I called and changed my order to DS/B. Now, my car is in production and I think I should have ordered DS/DS instead of a black roof. The point is, I think we all freak out to some extent over our color choices, but in the end we fall in love with our cars. Pure silver is sleek. Nice color choice. If you keep second guessing yourself or keep wishing you had something else, you will miss out on the enjoyment of the car you chose. If you think pure silver is boring, change your perspective. There are so many cosmetic things you can do to your car to keep it from being boring. That's what I plan on doing. And you can always sell it later. Welcome to the MINI world of craziness.
A PS/B MC has a very clean classic look to it. Plus you can customize the heck out of it and still maintain that look, or give it a a more toy look. So I would not worry about it, I think you will really like it!

This is a stretch, but maybe a reason to like PS on a MINI:
Is the German adopted parentage and engineering part of what makes the MINI appealing to you? If so, then I think you made an excellent color choice. Silver is to German cars what red is to Italian cars (Ferraris, Alfas, Maseratis, etc.), BRG is to British cars (Lotuses, Jaguars, Bentleys, Morgans, etc.), and blue is to French cars (Bugattis, Delahayes, Talbot-Lagos, etc.). Silver on a German car calls to mind the classic pre and post-WWII sports and racing cars from Auto Union (later Audi), Mercedes, BMW, and Porsche.
We went with PW/B as it seemed most in keeping with the MINI's '60s British car styling origins (CR/W would have worked, but I'm not a red car guy either). The only negative I see with PS is how common a color it is for cars in general these days.

I ordered a DS/B... but, man, I've seen some incredibly good-looking PS/B. Even better when they're done up right. I think you can gather some good ideas and improve your outlook on your color choice by looking through the members' gallery.
If you haven't changed your feelings about your color choice once your car arrives, you can always see what the dealer has on the floor. How you feel about the color of your car can be as important as (or more than) the packages you ordered with your car. In other words, if the dealer has a color choice that you truly want, except it doesn't include a premium package, then you'll have to weigh what you can live with or without from day to day. You'll have to be absolutely sure you're comfortable when you approach your car every morning.
With that said, if something is missing, there is always a way to compensate with an upgrade here or there
. (Don't read into this last statement too much
)
Good luck!

Here goes:
1. Stick with your first choice. In life, it's always the right choice.
2. You'll feel different once you see your new baby. Trust me.
3. Silver is amazing at hiding dirt.
4. SalemMiniDriver is so right.
5. Listen, you can so totally customize the heck out of it.
6. Remember, everything goes with silver.
7. Last time I checked....bullets were....
8. Your Mini is configured EXACTLY how you wanted it to be. There's probably not going to be one on the lot in another color. And you're right, it'll be too late to order another 2006.
9. You can always trade it in, in a few years. Gotta love the amazing resale value!
10. You can fix all your problems with just one simple purchase. A nice pair of glasses with a really dark tint in any color you like.

Wow... thanks to everyone that replied!! The support here is amazing. Someone should do a study about the psychology of forums like this... probably already being done.
I, of course, did the neurotic thing. Last night I snuck up to the lot and looked at the cars. The PS they had looked nice at night. I still like it, just not SURE!. So did a PW with Black top that was loaded... but alas, an automatic. Today I emailed my MA asking if there were any cars "closer" to delivery or unclaimed that might be interesting. (I'm sure he thinks I'm nuts!)
I do believe everyone's comment about first choices being the best instinct. I actuallly was this close to buying a pure silver off the lot one day (only difference was it didn't have the Premium AC and On-Board computer and the dash was 7-black), but then the dealer sold it! So, I think if my car were here today for delivery, I would probably be happy, which should tell me something. As it is, it is "Awaiting Transport" and according to the 800 number, could be anywhere from 3-4 more weeks! And with the possibility of more hurricanes, who knows (knock wood)!
I even called another dealer in the state who had a really cute hyper blue with a white roof, but it has a blue dash and I don't know if that thrills me. Plus, I don't want to back out of the deal I have with the local dealer. I want to be loyal.
In essence, it is the waiting that's killing me because I am currently freelancing and looking for full-time work and before I get a "real" job again, I want to motor. (I have plans to drive from Tennessee to New York City, making several stops along the way to see friends... my own sort of MTTS).
I do think that I will customize it a bit... add a spoiler, maybe the "S" chrome gas cap, and some chrome for the side reflectors. I just don't have lots of extra cash to put into the car (I'm stretching as it is!) and I'm in no way mechanically inclined, so I can't customize it to the extent of some of the pictures posted here --- all really cool and beautiful cars by the way!!! Of course, I think the S looks sportier just because of the bonnet scoop.
Anyway, thanks for listening and offering your thoughts. Once again I have blabbered on like I'm on the therapist's couch! I'm still not convinced, then again, I probably wouldn't be a typical Mini lover if I didn't have doubts.

I ordered a PS/B MC, DSC, Premium, Cold. Each time I see a Mini I think wow that looks good and wonder if I picked the right color. I really like the clean look of PS and its a bit stealthy (more fun than subtle) which fits my personality.
I second guess the sunroof/moonroof all the time but thats just me driving myself crazy cuz I cant motor yet.
Someone in the what I hate about my mini thread said something along the lines that it cant change colors because they like them all.
