uneasy in limbo
Well I called ASK-MINI about were my (start date 7-27) MINI was in production. They said it was in production, which I knew 10 days ago, and would be finished 8-18....sooo, my little guy is in the forcasted factory partial shutdown..Just halfway into it's making...I have a bad feeling about a MINI being stopped mid production for who knows what changes they are doing to the line.Instead of the average 1 week build it is now 3+...I hope this jag in production does not affect the final quality of the MINI. Maybe I just have the normal waiting while freaking out thing, but ...........

My car started production 7/24, went into the body shop 7/30, est. completion date 8/15. I hadn't even thought about the quality possibly suffering due to the shutdown. Here's hoping that they do it right! (I have faith that they will)
I ordered my car on July 15. Since Aug. 1 the automated phone system has been telling me the same message -- car is in the paint shop with a scheduled completion date of July 31. I spoke to a customer service rep just minutes ago. He agreed that this was odd. He checked with someone else, and reported that with the factory shutdown to retool for the '07's, cars in the paint shop were put on hold. They'll resume production when the factory reopens, which he said will be tomorrow or Friday. Let's hope it's not half '06/half '07!

If you get a half 06' and half 07' MINI then you'd be a Chimera MINI- neat!
I think they've been doing the year end switch for enough years since the 2002 to 2003 model year so they know how to finish up things although this year is a much bigger change.
Heck if the 07' parts don't fit they can custom fit and weld stuff on your 06'.
I think you will be fine, you can always inquire again to find out more.
Good luck. Soon the wait will be over.
