New from New Jersey

New to the site. I joined because I am interested in buying a MINI and
don't know that much about them. I've been on the MINI site and poked
around but thought it might be a good idea to talk to some people that
own them and get their opinion(s).....Any suggestions are welcome such as
years (used) to stay away from, new(base or S), etc,etc......
Look forward to hearing from someone....

Thanks in advance.

Todd

Welcome to NAM Todd.

I really depends on what you want out of your Mini. More performance, budget concerns, etc.

I was recently in your situation. Used vehicle options did not make sense, because of the high resale value. I drove MC and MCS. Performance was a priority for me, so MCS and Sport Package were must have. I ended up going highly optioned.

Suggest that you go to a dealer and check out the cars/options first hand. Beware, once you drive one, you're hooked!

What part of Jersey are you from? I stopped in 2 NJ dealerships recently, but live (and purchased) in PA.

Welcome! I'm from Jersey too! What part are you from? And what dealership are you planning to do business with?

Regarding '06 vs. '07 models. The '06 models will be the last ones for the current generation. So they've been tried and tested--the best model in terms of resolved bugs and the like. For the '07 they'll be moving over to a turbocharged engine and a new noticeable look.

Go for a test drive!

You gotta go for it. You can see how much passion people have for these Minis, there's a reason for that. The good far outweighs the bad, expensive to maintain? Yes. Have a couple of annoying rattles? Yes. Beautiful inside & out? Yes. A blast to drive? You knows it!

hello Todd,

Just picked my Mini up from Prestige in June. I live about 10 miles from the dealer and they are a top notch group. Also went to my first Tech night last Wednesday. I've heard good things about Morristown Mini as well.

Take a bunch of test drives, they're free.

Can't go wrong with either Prestige or Morristown (AKA Open Road MINI).

I just took delivery of my new MINI last Friday at Princeton MINI. It was my first new car purchase and my buying experience was excellent!
