New MCS!

Finally....after nearly 3 years of waiting for my MINI, I finally have it and it's home!

Specs:

03' MCS

Indi Blue/Black

50,000 miles, with oil changed every 6 months

loaded specs minus Sat NAV and antrathic headliner

Premium, Sport, and Cold packages

Panther Black Leather

Pics will soon follow!

Motor On! Getting insurence and plates tomorrow, but I won't get to motor until Friday....can't wait!

-Cody

Snapped off a few before driving, and before it got dark. This is my first manual car....so I haven't got used to it though, and especially hills!! AHHH!!!

Anyway, HERE:

No holes for a license plate....and I'm not putting one there! Haha!

Dual Panaramic Sunroof!

Hope you like! I had to take out a $6k loan (car was $17k) and my parent's said NO MODDING until It's paid for! Insurence is running me $1,200/year. I'm planning on doing an ATLA CAI and short-throw for my b-day!

Edit* This is how I recieved the car, the guy's wife drove it and he is a car freak! He had a Z06 Vette, Thunderbird, and an old Porsche Carrera sitting in the drive way! This MCS is completly stock, and I forgot engine pics! :(

Edit* And if anyone doesn't know, I'm only 16, so this is quite an accomplishment! I finally get something for working my butt off for the past 2.5years of my life!

WOW! 16 and your first MINI. Congrats!

You can pass the time until Friday detailing it. Car freak or no, it needs some love.

That 1200$ seems low, it is full coverage or liability?

Congrats not only on the acquiring your MINI, but for your hard work and goal setting to get what you wanted, and waiting for it. You are a rare breed in this day and age where I fnd most young kids want everything handed to them. Now, DON'T screw up your insurance by getting a speeding ticket or two. It's NOT worth it! Drive defensively and always park it in a safe place. Baby your baby. Again, CONGRATS!

What the heck is up with the HVAC controlls. It looks like the display at the center of the mini wings is missing?

Very cool! I hope they bring that color back for the 07's. Good to see you got what you wanted after all your debating and planning!

Full coverage, but I'm the "primary" driver...so it's actually through my dad I guess...?

Oh guys! Questions: The car has ~49,400miles on the clock. The warrenty ends at 50,000. Is there anything I should have the dealer look at, until I don't have the warrenty anymore? The front left windscreen wiper is chipped (paint came off) and the guy I bought it from told me to take it to the dealer and they would probably replace it?

And I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but the transmission seems kind of noisy. Shifting it doesn't seem like anythings wrong, so is the Getrag 6-speed just noisey? It doesn't bother me, actually I kind of like it! I just don't want any problems before the warrenty ends!

Next: When my dad drove the car home (remember, I'm just learning a stick...so no highway!) the runflat light came on the speedo and started flashing. I popped out the manuel and read it, and it stated that this sensor comes on when the car senses a drop or change in PSI. Anyway, we drove it home, got it home, and checked it. The guy just put brand new Pirelli's on the car (on the stock 17" S-lites as you can see) and brakes just before selling the car. I reset the sensor and now it has gone away. Should I check the PSI, take it to the dealer, not worry about it? I'm kind of lost in this position....and don't exactly know what to do! (*Edit - it has since not come on)

And another question: As you can see in the pics, the MINI is antennaless! The antenna is in the boot. If it rains will it ruin/or cause damage to the "stand" which the antenna attaches to? Basicly, will I be fine leaving it off, or should I put it back on to prevent rust? I do still get the radio, but I haven't listened to it much!

And the SC Whine doesn't seem very loud. Even at ~4-5krpm in first gear it really isn't that loud. I'm going to try and have another MINI owner drive it and see what he thinks...hopefully everythink checks out!

Answers would help, and ASAP if possible! Those couple of hundred miles arn't going to last very long!

Thanks!
-Cody

Your car is so sexy. Ive said it a million time and Ill say it again. You worked hard and it paid off BIG, I just hope I can do the same thing. I evan want your color. I think if you get a CAI, you should hear the SC more, but I dont have one yet, so dont listen to me.
EDIT: Did you take off the bonnett stripes off when you bought it? They were there in cars.com

This one is a different car than the one on cars.com. I ditched that MINI for this one. 30k more miles, but this is loaded with everything I wanted....and was taken better care of.

Alright, when I backup I can feel the exhaust rattle. I'm sure this isn't normal, so I'm going to call up the dealer and book an appointment. How should I go about it, how do I know if money is involved, if I'm getting screwed, if it's under warrenty for that, etc. I don't want to call them and not know what to say and get changed for something that I shouldn't!

Basicly, do you think this will be fixed under warrenty, and no cost to me? I'm pretty sure it's just a hinge missing...?

Thanks for all of the comments!
-Cody

edit* I let my friend drive it for ~15min today just around town. Note* He hates MINI's, for everything. Anyway, he started off slow, around my house. Soon, we got away from my house and he opened it up, and felt the pull of the MINI and what it can do! Needless to say, after giving them NO credit, and saying he hated them....he claimed that he might have to take out a loan in the summer for one! These car's are simply amazing, and a BLAST to drive! I love stomping on the pedal through first, then power shifting into second....but that bad on the clutch....but man can you feel it pull. Generally speaking, how much boost do stock MCS' get, and how much will the 15% pully, ALTA CAI, and ALTA short-throw make on the performance of the car? How much harder will the car pull?

Not sure of the warranty on a '03 but think it's the same as current models which is 3/36 and 5/50.. If '03's have a different warranty, disregard the remainder of this response.
The "covers everything" warranty, on current models, is 3/36. The 5/50 is a powertrain warranty which means, in short, they won't cover anything that isn't a major component failure within the engine or transmission (emission control warranties are federally, and possibly in some cases state, regulated.)
As a former service advisor at a Jeep dealer and service manager at a Acura dealer I can tell you rattles, any noises not associated with major powertrain malfuntion, interior issues, and anything else the dealer can get away with won't be covered. From what I've read on other postings, MINI (or BMW) is pretty hard-core about refusing warranty service on anything they think they can get away with. Having said that, dealership attitude plays a reasonable piece in this.
Find any information you can about the dealer you plan on using. I suggest looking for dealership input on NAM's website or your local Better Business Burea.
Good luck.

polizei, the Cicinnati MINI dealership is pretty goog at fixxing rattles, sqeaks and other noises. They pulled my dash and door panels out to fix some rattling and replaced my front roters and pads no questions asked.

Dragonnmann, I WILL be at the auto-x on the 28th, look for me! Hopefully I can get a ride with you too....man, I love the pull on this car...it's crazy!

I'm on vacation (from work) from the 20th, to the 29th, so I'll be motoring all that week! I can't wait...see you Sunday. Hopefully I'll be able to get a HAI for my birthday, to boost the SC Whine and let my car breath better.

And I'll going to call MINI when I get home and ask them. Who should I ask for when asking the question? Who should I call?

Call the dealer and ask to talk to a service advisor ASAP, I'd say its worth it to have them to an inspection (did this for me for free at my last service, but may cost you a small diagnostic fee) if your warranty is almost up you don't want ot say coulda shoulda woulda. And they'll tell you if anything is wrong before they start work just ask is it covered under warranty so there are no suprises. Paint chips, tires, clutches, brakes and other "wearables" aren't covered, though you can usually get a set of wiper blades thrown in with oil service.

The tire issue makes me think it was just from the change in rubber, but check the pressures weekly, slightly overfill and bleed to proper PSI, it helps safety MPG and preformace.

Glad to hear your having fun, I cringe when I hear power shifting, but each to their own.

And most of all congratulations, I know what it is like to work for a car (my first wasn't a MINI) while still in school and I know that takes lots of disipline and determination. Don't get lost in dreaming about mods, get her paid off first I have seen too many need to seel their MINI because the payment became a burden. the MINI is a great stock car, I did my fist mod in Jan (CAI), and it just paid for itself last month. I was at the track in the beginning of April and modded the nut behind the wheel, I could hang with the modded cars all day long, and it has saved my but on the streets as well. Autocross is a great fun and cheap way of learning, and my motivation to save the speed for the track, take the advice of others and keep the ins. rates down.

Alright, thanks for all of the information and advice guys. I'm going to call the dealer and see what they say. Other than the exhaust rattle, I see no other problems with the car...and I was out motoring yesterday and it seems the tranny got a bit more quite....guess it's just me getting better at shifting.

Motor on! I'm off work today, so I'll be back in quite a long time! I'm going motoring!!!

-Cody

Edit* I just checked the sticker and it has the car has Premium, Sport, and Cold pack....so I don't know where the pedals went? O well!

HVAC stands for "heating, ventilation, and air conditioning." I believe DrDiff is refering to large round ****, just above your doorlock switch, is either missing completely or just missing a emblem. The HVAC controls are quite different than my '06 so I'm not sure what is supposed to be there.

The large **** displays the auto-ac temperature...? Is that what you are refering to?

Sorry, can't help. Either the '06 has a different control configuration or it's because mine doesn't have auto-ac.

You should always check the pressures, at least once/month.

The antenna is in the boot.

Thats a weird place for it. Just screw it in.

And the SC Whine doesn't seem very loud. Even at ~4-5krpm in first gear it really isn't that loud.

Why would you think stock SC would be loud? Aftermarket CAIs are usually loud. Stock should be quieter. Gear has nothing to do with it.
