Service interval mileage - how close?

I remember during my first service interval it was OK to bring my MINI in as long as the counter was below 1000. Now, for my second service, they want it absolutely to read ZERO. Has anyone else been told this?

My problem is that I'll hit the 50,000 mile max before that and end my maintenance contract. CRAP.

I'm a bit over 25000 miles and about 3000 from the next service (according to the car). I was in the dealer a few weeks ago and the service writer mentioned not to wait. He advised me to just get it in aroound the 25000 nd we could get the things we've been discussing taken care of.

Wow Thom, sounds like your dealership is more generous than mine is... <sigh> Capitalism is alive and well in California...

Hey there,

At my local dealer ( MINI North Scottsdale ) it depends on WHO you see. I was in once and the MINI guy was not there , so I had to deal with the BMW service guy - he said that the counter had to read "0" before they could touch it. On the next visit the MINI guy said "no problem" as long as I was with-in 500-1000 miles of the service - no need to make 2 trips the same month.

So... from now on - I make sure I have an appointment with the MINI service guy

He understands us MINI folk

If you are near the 50,000 mile mark, your free maintenance program ended long ago at 36,000 miles.

Yeah, I opted for the extended maintenance plan, which I'm coming to think now was a waste of money, since I've only brought in my MINI maybe twice?

How much would a Second Inspection cost anyhow?

I too learned my lesson. I absolutely refuse to deal with the BMW writer at Classic (in Mentor, Ohio). My first appointment was set up with the MINI writer, but he wasn't there when I dropped off the car. It wasn't pleasant. I almost told the BMW guy to @$#% off. I called the other day to schedule service #2 and he answered the phone. I said I'd call back...

I just had mine in last week for its first service. They told me over the phone it had to be within 500 miles, when I got there it was reading 600, they did it anyway. I think they have more leeway than they like to let on. On my last BMW, I took the car in for a small warranty adjustment, the counter was still reading around 1500 miles, and THEY offered to do the next service while it was there.

I was told within +/-500 miles on the service interval indication. South Bay MINI in Los Angeles County. The bad part is that the miles seem to start incrementing much more quickly once you pass zero!
