Run Flat Woes

HI guy's

I am new to posting but have visited the site for the last year picking up valuable tips (Thanks). Now I have a story to tell. I had a horrible day last Friday. I just washed my 05 MCS and to dry the wheels I usually drive the car around the block. This time I took off a little faster than usual and woudn't you know it a cop was hiding in the shadows with a radar gun. My first ticket since I stopped riding sport bikes nearly 14 years ago.

To make matters worse about a mile down the road I hit a pothole going about 10 mph and it split the Pirrelli Euphori@ on the entire sidewall. Chords are showing but it holds air (luckily the rim looks ok too). The only thing I can't stand about my mini is these run flat Pirrelli's The ride is uneccesarily harsh for such a light car and they grab the So Cal rain grooves worse than any tire I have ever used. So this may be a blessing in disguse. I was wondering what tires work best for the MCS. It is a daily driver witha the occasional canyon romp but on the other hand I want o get the most performance I can get on So Cal's virtually unmaintained roads. If it is not a runflat that would be fine (I figure I can carry a plug kit and a bicycle pump), anything for a more compliant ride that doesn't ricochet off the bumps. What are you guys using?

Chris

Goodyear F1's...Nonrunflats, they're not cheap, but the ride is considerably better than my Goodyear all season runflats (which are supposedly better riding than the Pirelli's). Only downside is I went with 215/45/17's; it has slowed down acceleration, and the steering wheel is a bit heavier. On the plus side, the car rides much, much nicer, and it sticks to the road like glue--the F1's are not nearly as squirrly as the runflats were at times.

I'm using BFGoodrich KDW II. The ride is nice and the stick is awesome. Only down side is thet they are not quite tires. Never bothered me too much cause if I can hear the outside world the volume on the radio is to low.

You threw me there for a second...if they're not quite tires I couldn't figure out what else they could be! Then I got what you meant...a little slow tonight lol

non-run flat tires

My choices

BF-Goodrich - Gforce - sport

Quieter comfier, super high performance and the treadware is decent. Oh did I mention it's a hella lot cheaper too? $100 per...

Check out the reviews at tirerack.com

I don't have these yet but I'm probably going that way once I burn up my run flats. I like bf-goodrich because if they're rated for 60k miles, they'll last 60k miles and not tear apart like Bridgestones at 20k miles. Anyone else have the Gforce sports?

I'm using the Falken Ziex....Great quiet tire, great treadwear. I'm in South FL so I would imagine our climates are similar.....
So far this tire has really impressed me...

Thanks Guy's

Run flats worked just fine on my tricycle. I am glad to see I am not the only one willing to do without that feature in the name of performance!

I switched to a set of 15" holeys, bought from craiges list for $200 bucks with fresh (al be it stock) tires. The difference was amazing on the ratty LA roads. No more fear of losing a filling trying to get to work. As an added bonus my MPG went do to the weight loss (wheels, not mine - but thats another story.) As soon as I get to it I will be replace the rubber on the 15's to something a bit wider and with more grip.

Just one more option.

I had no idea

Thanks for the tip. I thought the MCS brakes were larger and would not fit. I like that idea for the commute.
