My MA is a little freaked out by the things I am coming up with, I think. Not only do i know the name of the port where the ship is docking, but the .gif animation of the ship going through panama (thanks Doug), the list of Dealer Programmable options that he didnt have, and the fact that I knew someone was starting in their service department next week when only one person at the dealer knew.

Be careful, I know all and see all

So I'm assuming this means that it shows up on the new car inventory? I looked at my dealerships page and my VIN appears listed as a new car available. . . this is normal??

My VIN shows up in MoP new car inventory as if it is available, (I'm positive it is not) so it must be normal.

Yes. When I was first looking at MINIs, I scoured MoP's inventory for suitable cars (no sunroof with LSD). When I asked Steve about the cars he said they were all ordered cars, and hence not available.

I'm sure everybody will be fine. As Aaron says,

I think Steve is out of the office on Wednesday, but when you talk to Vinny, ask him to give Steve a hug.

Oh, and don't forget to post pics of your cars!! (And a BRG/W MCS with 16" V-spoke wheels, fogs, and no sunroof, if you should see it.) Sorry that I won't have a chance to meet you guys.

OL says it's at the dealership (which I knew based on the inventory, but still)!

Now I just need to hear from my MA...

For those of you picking up your cars today, have fun and post pics!!

I wonder if being ahead of schedule is frowned upon?

Let's see, it's about 150 nautical miles from the Port of San Diego to Port Hueneme. If it takes 3 days for the trip, that means the CL travels at 50 nautical miles per day, or about 2 miles per hour??? Heck, I can crawl faster than that! (okay, but maybe not for long!)

Either they put ships in a holding pattern because of the limited capacity of the ports (i.e. backlog), or they allow them to come in ahead of schedule.

Because, obviously, it doesn't take 3 days to get to PH from SD.

I think it may stop in Long Beach on the way to PH, but I don't know.

Why would it stop there? Or maybe a better question to ask is why did it stop in San Diego in the first place? I thought PH was the VDC for MINIs & BMWs for the entire west coast.

If that's the case, then no MINIs or BMWs were offloaded in San Diego, and none will be offloaded in Long Beach, if it indeed stops there. Perhaps it's carrying some other cargo as well.

San Diego is home to Acura, American honda, Isuzu, VW, etc. I don't know what is up in Long Beach, but it's a big port.

Well it certainly wouldn't be carrying any Asian vehicles, that's for sure.

San Diego is also the receiving port for Porsche. And I don't believe it's carrying any Porsches, based on forum information elsewhere. But if it's carrying BMWs (more than likely), the CL must have originated in Germany, as you have surmised.

Twiddle .. twiddle .. twiddle

Must ... not ... obsess. Oh well, too late for that. :impatient

OK, so looking for a surrogate ship to track, I came up with the following alternatives that must be somewhat close to the Centaurus Leader.

LUDWIGSHAFEN EXPRESS (callsign DILE). (sailwx, hapag-lloyd ... you can find its schedule by clicking "Interactive Schedule" then "Vessel Tracing" up towards the top of the window that pops up)

APL GARNET (callsign 9VVN) (sailwx)

One of those two ships should be close to the CL... Now if only obsessing would get the ship here faster.

New MINI

I picked my MINI up late this afternoon. Here's a picture I took on the way home tonight. It's 60 miles from MoP to my house, plus a few more miles to avoiding droaning along on the highway. The car is everything I hoped it would be. I'm very pleased. Even though of all of us Week 18ers, I got mine fairly early, I'll say for all of you on the west coast it will be worth the wait. You won't be disappointed.

Ron

Sweet rides! Good on ya, mate!

Congratulations to you east coasters. Keep the pictures coming. Gives me something to look forward to other than the interminable wait.
