How to determine which port your MINI will be headed to?

It seems that many of the 2006 delivered MCs and MCSs which are destined for a West Coast origin are coming into NY and then being trucked west? This leads me to ask anyone who might know, is there a certain factor which determines if your MINI gets placed on a boat for an east coast or west coast port? Or is just availability of the next ship leaving Southampton?

I found details of the Tristan, leaving Southhampton to Port Hueneme on April 8th (the first ship leaving after my car is completed on April 4th, coming to PH) and arriving 21 days later. I know its premature, but I am curious if my MCS will actually be on a vessel coming to PH or if I'll have to get trucked west like so many others.

How many west coasters have had their cars come through Port Hueneme recently?

Not sure how you got the info about bein 'trucked west', most of west coasters from what I have seen got their Minis unloaded at PH. The ship may make a stop at GA, but not in NY or SC, they have to cross the Panama Canal before touching the pacific ocean.

Hong,

Ah you know what I did....I was tricked by Californians who were ordering from NY dealers and then comments saying they were waiting for the truck to deliver it west! I must just be too excited to process things properly! Thanks for claryifying for me

Suzanne,

Where have you heard that West Coast Mini's are sometimes shipped to the East Coast and then put on a train? I'm new to the Mini community but I've yet to hear that.

Also, your new Mini will most likely not be on the Tristan. Mini tends to use NYK and K-Line ships to the West Coast, although I don't know if that is exclusive. So far, I don't think anyone has found a way to track ships from these two lines on-line. The only way to find out what ship your Mini is on is to check with your MA at your dealer. Ask Mini will not have any info. Once you know the ship name, you can use the links in this excellent post by ThompsonR53. My Emma was a Week 6 build. I picked her up on 18Mar, ~5-1/2 weeks after she arrived at the Port of Southampton.

***Edit - I guess I don't type quickly enough. Looks like Hong beat me to the punch.
