you don't get a discount unless you try. but it only took me one hour on the phone to get 6 quotes faxed to me with discounts ranging from 500 to 1200 on a custom spec JCW. the ones that act shocked are just kidding themselves, don't let them kid you. my local dealer at first agreed to match or beat any offer i got, and my MA was outstanding!!! but the less than customer-oriented sales mis-manager ended up blowing the deal with attitude, actually refused to sign the sales order the night i went in, so i took my business elsewhere. compromised on $$-off vs. distance to drive it home, and am quite happy.

btw, one of the sales "tactics" was to threaten sub-par warranty service and "loaners are only for in-house purchases, it's a shame to have to walk while your car is being repaired, mate". lol. the service manager (another great guy) agreed that was a load of cr*p, and that based on my experience, they didn't deserve my purchase. he assures me that no matter where i bought the car, my treatment in his service department will be top notch.

don't let them bully or kid you, the days of no discounts or worse, dealer premiums, are over. doesn't mean the cars aren't worth it, its just that after 5 years reality has sunk in.

I believe there may be a good bit more profit in the JCW orders, and thus a bit of room to haggle. For the Cooper/S orders, I don't think this is the case.

not saying this is 100% accurate at all, it is just what is available on the web. looks like a straight % off calculation, so i'd use it as a ballpark guess, but it should give you an idea of what the dealer has to play with...:impatient
