"Great, great driver..." LOL, as diplomatic a way of saying, "BS" as I have seen and I understand the scepticism and suspect that it was a bit of both. In fairness, the courses were fairly tight, parking lot courses which was a great equalizer of superior cars. Any '79-'83 Texas A&M SSC members around to vouch for me?

To the OP, cut the fans a bit of slack. Some of them have only owned one or two cars.

Come on!!! If you dont like it, go buy your honda or scion or whatever you feel is "light" enough for you. We love are cars and will defend them to the end.
Well, with narrowminded, ignorant dumbos like you lurking on this board, who wants to come back. You guys are a riot. Enjoy your self-congratulatory love fest, I'm outa here.
Hmmm... So you didn't expect at least one response like this one? And of all the thoughtful response's this is the one you choose to resply to? Narrowminded, ignorant? Maybe. Discerning, perceptive? Definitely.

Okay... back to the love fest.

Totally agree. I thought that most of the responses were very thoughtful and insightful. To get offended by an extreme response, flip out and leave suggests that we might not expect the same kind of rational debate from this person...

Bill

ps - love your "love fest" !!!!

Seriously! It comes off like they were waiting for a post like that to reply to when there was clearly opportunity to respond to plenty of others in this thread and engage in a real discussion about the topic they started to begin with.

I don't know.......I have a $20,800 car (MCS) that looks/drives like a $30,800 car. I think I deserve to congratulate myself on a deal like that.....MUAH!!

No, no, no...well... yeah I was being diplomatic, but I meant what I said, you've got to be talented to beat even a 1.7 with a Beetle (it didn't have an SC motor and 12" rims in the back did it? ) . I admit my initial reaction was , but I was just trying to defend the 914 a bit! It gets a bad enough beat in Porsches circles as it is, where it's largely considered a Porsche designed VW.

That's 'cause it is! Not that its a bad thing I guess. I've spent time behind the wheel of a 914 and had a very different experience then "doh". No torque, not enough HP and the handling was nothing to write home about. I'd say my 06 MCS handles BETTER

A 914 is a pretty cool car but DEFINITELY dated. It's not in the same league as a modern MCS.

Without a doubt... The car is far more comparable to an MC in general, with underwelming power, but when setup, it is a very potent handler. OTOH, buy a decent roller for 1-2K and put another $10-25K into it equaling the cost of a current MINI , and things get a little more interesting. Classic case of a good basic design left largely unfulfilled. The factory certainly understood this to some extent, recalling the ultra rare 916, but somehow it took them another 25 years and a recollection of the RS Spyder to wander back around to doing a mid engine design.
