Love My Dory!

So I bought a 2005 Hyper Blue Mini Cooper (no "S") back in August 2004, on the day after Hurricane Katrina left Florida, from Holman Mini in Fort Lauderdale. This was supposed to be just a second car for tooling around in, so as not to put so many miles on my 2005 BMW 330i.

Now it's January of 2006. I sold the BMW in November, because I hadn't driven it in over 2 months. "Dory" passed 8,000 miles today. The car was all blue when I bought it - but after a 10-day stay at Holman Lincoln's Body Shop, she now has a white roof. Yeah, it cost $700, but it looks great.

I replaced the factory cheapy stereo with an Alpine head unit... then added an amp... then added Sirius... then an iPod unit.

I discovered all the various Mini web sites, and started ordering. I've added side chrome lights, the Euro parcel shelf, a glove box organizer, and a cargo net to the back. And now I'm looking at getting a new exhaust system and all kinds of other goodies.

What is going on here? What kind of strange pull does this snappy little car have over me? Is there any cure, or am I doomed? I can't imagine driving any other car now. I sneer at SUVs and turn up my nose at passing sportscars. I grin as I fill up at the gas station. I whistle merrily as I cruise down the freeway.

A fair warning to others out there who have just bought - or are about to buy - their first Mini. This isn't just any old car. This is the most fun you can legally have in most states.

Never seen a car elicit such rabid devotion

Before you know it you will be carrying cleaning products in your boot and be dusting her off and cleaning windows on the gas islands.

I am just glad i found this website. My wife thought I was nuts. I showed her the thread about buyers tracking the ships carrying there cars and now my obsession doesn't seem as bad to her.
