It looks like the Phoenix Leader will make Long Beach two days early. I found a dispatch schedule for the Stevedores Union that shows it scheduled to arrive at 8am pst on 8Mar06 (today). It also appears that it will be unloaded in one shift.

It's only a short trip to Port Hueneme from Long Beach so maybe two days early at Long Beach means two days early at Port Hueneme too. That would make it tomorrow, 9Mar06. I could have my Mini by the weekend if the VDC is quick. Yah!!!

oh that would be very cool! it's our anniversary on saturday and since the car is a shared one (for now... i suspect my aversion to driving might be changing ) it'd be a great surprise to take a "detour" before dinner. hell we may end up ditching our dinner reservations and drive on to san francisco instead.

i think saturday might be pushing it, but then a month ago i wasn't expecting keyop until mid april, two weeks ago not until march 20th, two days ago not until march 15th.

Phil, I bow to your superior internet abilities. I search for probably a couple of hours for any kind of schedule for that port without luck.

My MA quoted up to 21 days to get it from the VPC. I'm hoping a bit sooner but at this point I would not be suprised if it took that long.

 

okay, i'm officially reversed in my positions. i've now sold the car and am officially car-less until the mini shows up.

 

oh nos! Hopefully you have a chauffeur. I'm in a bit of a similar situation except that my current car is on it's last legs. The engine light is on and it's smoking a bit. Every time I start it I plead with it to last just a few more weeks. There is no way I want to spend money repairing it so close to delivery time

 

well fortunately i work from home. my daily commute is like 30 feet. the town where i live is great too because anything i need is in walking distance. the only wrench in my plan is the girlfriend who needs a car two days a week. so i rented a crappy econobox from enterprise.

worst comes to worst i have an unregistered, uninsured beater in the garage that i can bring out of retirement for one last hurrah.

 

well looks like the phoenix hasn't made it to port huneme yet :( so i doubt anyone will be seeing their mini this weekend. oh well.

p.s. kia rios suck. i've been used to a big v8 and an integra for the past few years. yesterday pulling out of the rental place i had to cross over traffic. i look down the road a see a truck/suv a good 200-250 yards down the road. plenty of time. hit the accelerator and i'm not going anywhere. i had to kick in the overdrive and put my foot to the floor to get it up to 30. in the end it wasn't close at all and the other driver didn't have to break, but for a split second there i felt like a cartoon character with their legs spinning like crazy but not moving.

the mini is gonna feel like a fricken ferrari after a week of this POS.

 

Hahaha! I am going from a Geo Tracker (was a graduation gift 10 years ago) to a JCW mini. I am lucky if I can get to 50mph downhill in a hurricane in this junk pile.

No, the dealer did not have one to test drive so I'm sure I'm in for a suprise. I gunned the MCS that I test drove right before getting back to the dealership which planted us firmly in the seats. I said "oops, not used to the pedals" and then smiled to myself.

Really, upgrading to a Kia would be an improvement at this point.

 

Dashiel, Let's not loose hope yet. The port that you see above is San Francisco rather than Port Hueneme. You can compare the coastline on Google Earth. :impatient

oops you are indeed correct. silly me. i did do some snooping at bimmerfest this morning and saw the last time phoenix leader came this way people started getting their cars 3-4 days after it docked. might just squeak it.

Anyone get a estimated delivery date in the "review order detail" section of miniusa.com? Mine is still blank but I assumed it would change when the car was at the VPC.

 

My order detail is still blank. MA says they should have the car early next week!! We are scheduled to fly down and take delivery on the 23rd. Should be driving back up to the bay area on the 25th. Bolus maybe your mini can hitch a ride with us?!?!

 

Mine changed to Est delivery date exactly 7 days before it got to the dealer!

ah sorry. my MA said the boat should be in this weekend and the car should be in early next week. i don't know if he's basing that on the original schedule that had the phoenix coming in on saturday. i suppose if he was and "early next week" was monday/tuesday it could theoretically make it in on saturday, but i'm guessing it'll be wednesday.

 

OK, the Phoenix Leader was in Long Beach on Wednesday, it's only about 70 miles from Long Beach to Port Hueneme and now the message I get when I call Ask Mini is that my Mini is at the port awaiting a shipping vessel rather than en route. Could this be confirmation that it has been off-loaded in Port Hueneme? :impatient

Dashiel/Bolus, has Ask Mini changed your status as well?

I'll have to wait another half hour or so until I can speak to someone at Ask Mini and probably about 4 or 5 hours before I can talk to my local MA. I don't know if I can handle it. I may just have to go do some real work to take my mind off of the whole thing.

yep, ask mini has me awaiting a vessel. maybe keyop got here expecting california sun, saw the clouds and decided to get back on a boat to mexico

as i said my MA told me the ship would be in this weekend with delivery early next week. i assume unlike us obsessed, borderline psychotic people he wasn't scouring the web looking for any updates possible so he was basing that off of the originally scheduled arrival date of the phoenix. there's an outside chance it'll be there saturday if it flys through the VPC.

on slightly worse note, the car i mentioned selling... well it was my girlfriends car. we get all the DMV paper work signed over and are double checking everything. well the VIN i had written down earlier, didn't match the VIN on any of the original paperwork. turns out the car has the "correct" VIN everywhere but the very visible one. so we're running around between the DMV and CHP today trying to get that sorted.

she is of course freaking out assuming the worst, but i think it's going to be okay. i did a search for the other bogus VIN on carfax and it doesn't even show up, nor does it show up in google. it's a pain in the *** to take care of it, but that's about all (at least i hope).

so when you pick up your cars, double check that VIN

 

Not mean to discourage you guys, my Mini stayed in the Port Hueneme VPC for a whole week (2/28-3/8) before it showed up on dealership's floor. Askmini keeps saying 'waiting a shipping vessel/in transit', even right now! OL is slightly better, it eventually gave me a delivery date. Just my story, hope yours will be moving faster.

 

Crap, I am back to calling ask mini 3 times a day. I thought I got over that phase.

Speaking of crazy, is it legal in oregon to marry a car?
