I don't agree that it is a good idea to spend nearly $30K+ on these cars, I think the custom order process generates lots of profit because folks just can't control themselves. But, heck MINI needs all the money they can get to ramp up for the 2007's, right? I think all the MCS's are only worth about 22 to maybe 24K, so I held the line on my add-ons. Doesn't seem to drive any different or worse than the loaded ones that I test drove. Probably drives better since I have an extra 50 to 100 bucks a month that I can put in the tank. IMHO.

^True, And I think we all know that, but some of us, namly myself, like gadgets, buttons and screens like the nav system. Will it drive any differently or better, no, but will MY overall enjoyment of the car be more compared to me driving your car, yes.

If you EVER actually get to drive YOUR car. You are waiting like a year or something for it, right? No thanks. Mine was 6 weeks from order to delivery, and I have over 2000 miles on it now. You I am afraid are still dreaming about your gadget filled dream car for the next 6 to 8 months. As i said, NO THANKS. I'd rather be driving my "basic" MCS than dreaming about it.

Two things to consider. First, if your ordering DSC, Xenons and foglamps, why not just tick the sport package and get the 17's for just about free? There are reasons I suppose, but just letting you know. Second if you're getting the Chrome grill, by the time your dealer installs it, it wil cost as much as the exterior chrome line. Perhaps you don't like the look of the chrome mirror, dunno, but again the extra stuff is free.

What is the point of raining on someone else's parade?

Sure, he or she may have to wait a while ... and yes, some people do not find the optional gadgetry useful ...

But I bet the original poster is on a nice little high, about to order the exact car that he or she wants. He or she probably just wanted to share that excitement with what is presumably a like minded community.

Enjoy the process, and congratulations on your order!

HAHAH. True, but even if i wanted a base model with the minimum I would still be waiting that long. Its a matter of money for me. I need to pay off another car before I get this one, so the waiting works out well for me. If i had the money, believe me, I would have ordered it from Classic and had it by now. But it would still have been ordered with all the toys.

I don't know why people got so snarky so fast here... Welcome! I thoroughly enjoyed ordering my MINI to my specifications. I chose some extras I wanted/needed, and passed on some nice ones that I just couldn't afford. Malibu Stacy fits me perfectly and I hope your MINI brings you just as much happiness!

And no matter what, nothing will beat the butterflies in your stomach when you think about your MINI after you order it!

I just like to counterpoint the "all the toys" option ordering. Everyone jumps on that bandwagon and when spending the money I think it's good to hear from the other point of view. I really can't understand how everyone puts up with these insanely long wait times when ordering. I think there is just something a little "shady" about dealers who promote that sort of thing. Maybe they just can't sell enough cars to get a good allottment, is what I am thinking, or are pocketing deposit money, or working some angle, here. Anyone know for sure what is going on there?

Thanks for all the replies.

To address some issues brought up.

First, I currently drive an 2001 Acura CL. It came standard loaded. So I am kind of spoiled by all my gadgets. There is nothing wrong with my car. I actually love it and hate the thought of getting rid of it. But the Mini is so much more fun to drive. And I don't want to give up all the gadgets. So it is either load up the Mini, or keep my current car. The Acura cost $28k new, and so will the Mini. But with the value of my current car, and I have extra down payment, so total I am putting $23k down.

The reason I didn't get the sport package is because I want the 16" wheels. The 45 series run flats are a little stiff (my car is much more on the plush side). Anybody want to trade for the 17's? And I want the black mirror caps.

My dealer has quoted my 8 to 9 weeks, which doesn't seam bad. I would rather wait for a perfectly customized Mini just the way I want it and that is like no other. That is half of what a Mini is to me.

FYI. I am a male age 25.

Perhaps I'm reading more into these replies than was intended, but I'm getting the impression that adding lots of options increases time to delivery.

Is this true? Or is there something I'm missing?

Sorry to go off topic.

The car sounds beautiful. I hope she gets here soon.

interesting points being made... I agree with CDMINI in the sense that i was thinking the exact same thing when i ordered my car but I think he may be coming across a little too harsh. I just got what i felt i couldn't live without and kept the cost of my MCS around 24 grand. That's what I felt a mcs was worth. Been motoring since December 5th... 759 happy miles!

Consider the piano dash... I saw it at my dealer when picking up my plates and IT LOOKS REALLY AWESOME! Also, maybe leave off the mats as the dealer will probably throw those in for free. Maybe reconsider the blue leather... saw it in a Checkmate edition and it is REALLY blue... i wasn't into it.

Let's ASSUME no one is spending more then they should, so if you want the extra goodies, do it! That order process let's you get things exactly 'your way' and helps to make that Mini really yours!

I will say you just might want to leave a little money in your pocket (if that might be needed) just in case (probably ) you want to juice your Mini with some performance mods. These cars really do make you want to find out what a little (LOT) more juice will do for them!

WELCOME as its all good!!!!!!!!!!

Adding options does not increase the time to delivery unless they are out of stock or having supply issues (like with the cloth seats currently) in which cast they notify the dealer/you (this had happened in the past when the BMW step tranny was on backorder).

I think what you are missing is that someone was just trying to push their own idea of something on someone else who was not asking for it

By the by, we ordered lots of stuff on our car and love/use/appreciate it all. Much better to get it the way you want it then try to add it later.

Cheers, now have fun waitin' for your car cube, you'll love it when you get it

PS: You may want to order the iPod adapter, rubber floor mats (if they are not including them for free) and any other dealer added options from Classic in Ohio at a discount and install yourself. You'll save on the base cost of the items vs what the full retail the dealer will charge and save on any install fees as well

Oh yes, back on topic, NICELY optioned!

I would suggest a few things, the anthracite headliner, which is a HUGE improvement in interior quality over my previous '03 MCS's gray one.

And if you're planning on adding dealer options to your order, such as the iPod adaptor, to save a few pennies and DIY. All the addons available are pretty straightforward and can be done by the owner. Only certain ones, like the alarm, will require dealer help for programming issues.

Post pics when you get it!

I don't get that waiting game and hate to see it become some kind of standard in this MINI buying process. Car buying is enough of a pain, but I don't want to see it become an "order and wait a year" set-up, that's all. How does someone know about driving and owning a car that is just a receipt of a deposit at this point?

...and where did read in his post that he'll be waiting 10-12months? I didn't read it in the initial post.

Either way, there's plenty of dealerships out there to order a custom ordered mini that will get here in the same time you got yours. 'nuff said.
