Hi to all in NAM,
I joined not long along and I am glad to be a member. I have not own a Mini yet but have test drive last week on a auto S and cooper and I hope Mini in Sg could arrange a manual version for a test drive. ( currently I owned other makes, a 1.6 sports manual ). The problem most drivers and new buyers prefered auto, therefore most car dealers majority brings in auto.
I have read my mini built on year 02 to 04 have lots of problem on - dashboard ratting, steering colummn, gearboxes, wipers and etc but still willing to give mini a try and on ther otherhand comtempulating on a Golf 1.6 FSI.
Lastly is there anyone who owns a end 2005 or begining 2006 mini cooper and share if there are any problem faced.
Cheers

Welcome to NAM!
That is odd that you couldn't drive a MINI with a manual transmission because , unlike most cars, MINI's usually don't have auto transmissions.
We have a 2003 MCS and a 2006 Cooper built in September 2005. The new Cooper is much more refined and feels much more solid than my older MCS. So far, we have not had a single problem in 4000 miles.

SMC,
Welcome, buddy, to one of the world's best places on earth to share your dreams and realities. I've had several 03 MCS', all sticks and own two 05 MCS' both sticks. Sure, there have been issues with all the MINIS but I have been able to get them all taken care of thru warranty. No real problems come to mind that weren't able to be resolved.
As for my 05's, it's a whole new world. It appears the build quality has increased greatly. The tranny was changed for the better, especially the responsiveness when you really need it.
If you can find a pre-05 at a real good deal, I'd recommend going for it, especially if the mileage is under 30K miles. If the budget can handle an '05 and on you will never regret the opportunity to drive one of the "Eight Wonders of the World". And don't forget all the wonderful people here on NAM who just want to help a dream come true.

Sg = Singapore
Our country is relatively tiny, most cars owners prefer to drive on auto tansmission of the latest such as stephronic/triphronic whatever and only a handfull brings in manual. MIni SG told me I have to wait aleast 3-4months delivery wheresle auto available on the spot.
Generally buying a car here is at the mercy of cars dealers and if they dont bring the manual there is nothing can be done, e.g I have test drive a Golf 1.6 FSI and 2.0 GTI last november 05 and wanted a manual, VW told me that they will not bring in a manual models for there is no demand but I think is whether they are willing.
Mini Sg told mr last year that there is no manual mini in sg and if I wanted a mini they said I will be the first to own but to my suprises when I look at the newspaper advertisement most of the second hand mini are manuals.
So to say, cant trust salemen.
