Here We Go, I Ordered It

Managed to fight temptation to load it up and just put my deposit down on a cone-killer. This one's going to get some auto-x action, but I wanted it to be a solid daily driver (hence the interior goods—chromeline, anthracite dash and headliner, MFSW). Thanks to MINI USA for keeping the important stuff ala cart.

The Sport package was tempting, but I haven't owned a car with Xenons yet, so I'll avoid that crack pipe for another several years. And I realized that DSC would be turned off a lot of time anyhow. Keep in mind, I've been daily driving a 93 Miata prepped to STS2/CSP specs (coilovers, exhaust, intake, etc and so on. I'm also over 6' tall. This is going to be like moving into a luxury car.

I'll probably yank the OEM tires off and put my 710s on those and pick up a set of 17" Rota Grids in Royal Bronze this spring. I think the R99s would be killer in Anthracite on this car. Not sure about the $/weight of them though.

I have to say the color was the hardest part, we're going to the dealership this weekend in case I have second thoughts. (I found Astro Black and Dark Silver horribly tempting).

Nice!

At first I was going to go with Pepper White with black roof/mirrors, but then I saw an Astro Black MINI on the road and knew that was the color for me.

wow, another worked over miata goes down for a MCS!

I just sold my turbo miata and will be ordering my 06 MCS ASAP. My wife has one now, and yeah, coming from a coil-over miata, the difference is like night & day!

(go with the rotas....)

good luck!

I have yet to drive a MINI at night, but after we ordered MIB, our MA went on an overnight trip to Chicago. He had to drive in the dark and had Xenons. He strongly suggests Xenons to all of his customers now!

yep.. like fishbulb... I too gave up a turbo miata... was getting kinda old and I was getting tired of messing with all the mods on it...

Was looking at the new 06 MX-5 & wanted to test drive it... but they were screwing around with markup and getting them here in hawaii...

so I went with a MCS pretty much like you ordered as my new daily driver... but had to throw in a few luxuries such as h/k stereo & xenon lights... both are awesome & glad I got them....

The Int. Surface Anthracite is sharp.... got the Anthracite seats with the grey headliner...

just got it broken in... hopefully will be down at the next autocross if I don't have reserve drill that weekend

Hids

Yeah. . . those lights are tempting.

Here' my logic: I plan to keep this thing for a long while and it seems like there's lots of potential failure points with Xenons, specifically the motors and all the tech that goes into the auto leveling feature. I was inclined to put the money towards driving lights (i.e. Alta Light Bar, PIAA kit)

We're going to the dealership this Saturday. The better half has never even sat in a Cooper yet, and I haven't driven an 05 or 06 so it's a good excuse for the road trip/test drive.

Those are the two things I'm second guessing, the color and the headlights.

(It's been raining the last couple of days, and I have to say, right now I think I MIGHT miss turning the car with the right pedal. But I grew up in VWs and my A1 GTI was an absolute blast.)

I think you'll like the color once it's yours. And I think you'd LOVE the Xenons. I enjoy the cool way they look during the daytime as much as the glow at night.

The Xenons are one of the few really good deals with the car. They are worth every penny. On the other hands, the front fogs are pitiful.

Get the DSC. Here's a link to a report saying that it can reduce fatal accidents by 56%:

http://www.iihs.org/sr/pdfs/sr4001.pdf

You can always switch it off when you don't want it, for racing or whatever. But for day to day driving, it seems like it can do a lot to improve safety.
