Where to begin...
Where to begin...
First of all, my name is Brad I have a wife and a daughter and just purchased an 06 MCS.
I'm extremely interested in racing and modding, but I have no idea where to begin. It has always been my dream to own a Cooper, and part of that dream is to race it and mod it.
I'm new to these forums and this site (if you couldn't tell already) and I plan on being a regular here. I would appreciate any newbie advice that you could give me.
Thanks, and I look forward to our discussions.

hey there Brad! welcome and congrats on the car (and wife and kid while we're at it) if I can give you one suggestion to start it would be to get very familiar with the search functions on the board... I've spent countless hours looking into every single thing I wanted to know about. just about anything I could think of has been discussed ad nauseum here!

First, above all us, its best to spend the money of a driver's school. No amount of power or mods will mean anything if you dont know how to truly drive.
Second, for mods, take your time. There are SO many, that its impossible to absorb in a short time. Most important, the car needs to be "balanced". In other words, more HP is sexy but that don't mean anything if you cant get the power to the wheels so suspension, brakes and tires/wheels are JUST as important.
Take your time ... read many of the threads in ALL the sections. Figure out what people are talking about because there are MANY thing to do (e.g., SC reduction pulleys, Intercoolers, software maps). Some add little. Some add decent HP.
Jump in and ask questions in the appropriate forums. MANY people will help ... friendly. But remember, Vendors will try to sell you stuff, they need to make money. People will know what they bought, which might not be what others bought so caveat emptor.
Good luck and have fun. Making your MINI your way is what its all about:smile:

Welcome to NAM
I think every question has been answered (well at least a lot of them)
Sometimes the search doesn't bring up what your looking for so I type tried the search and didn't find what I wanted then some post a link that takes me right to it.
What color combo did you get?

Hey, Brad! Welcome to NAM! Sometimes even if you use the Search function, you don't easily find answers, so go ahead and post your questions. Be sure to read the Perf. Mods. threads for maximum inspiration. Be prepared to have an expensive new hobby with your MINI!
hi Brad,
This is Berk from San Antonio TX, welcome on-board. Modding is a big swamp, as soon as you step in, you will get sucked into it. I can give you too many ideas, but my biggest one would be to keep the car stock for some time and see the weaknesses and strong sides, so it will form a path in your mind, and modding wil be easier.
Good luck

A CAI and Exhaust will make you feel faster....to be faster, join a local autocross club and practice....the MINI has SO much potential right out of the box...it takes a skilled driver to reach its limits....I'm not one of them yet
Cheers

Thanks again everyone. Im enjoying just driving her right now. I think it's good advice from ariercetinberk to get to know her before I get into the "swamp" of tweakin her.
I think I may invest in a driving school in the near future. Do you all have any suggestions as to which school to go to? I'm just asking because I'm sure many of you have been to different schools and know more about the subject than I do.
BTW 10851CS: I'm from Utah. I got my MCS from St. Louis. It's a custom paint job: Silver with Royal Blue bonnet stripes.
