noobie question

in regards to the cooper vs the S. people have said that you are more busy driving the S because of the supercharger. hmm is there an extra gas pedal or something? people make it sound complicated

the difference is that you have a 6 speed in the MCS, with closer gearing... couple that with the ability to get the revs up quicker and you end up shifting a lot more. Also most people drive an MCS a bit more 'spirited' than the MC. that probably makes a significant difference in how often you downshift and the likelyhook that you will shift again just to keep the car in the powerband.

extra supercharger gear

--I drive by supercharger whine! Tachometer? What's that? Um yeah I agree with the last two statements. We drive more "spirited" for the kick of it. I just love the sound of the supercharger. The surroundings wizzing by at lightspeed is just a bonus to me. Even with my auto I like to put it into manual mode a lot of times because I can make it "sing" louder with my own shift pattern.

Well, I guess since the MINI is such fun to drive then an S must be even more fun as you are more involved in driving!

What's going to be interesting is that I'll be driving our JCW like an S when my wife is with and like a JCW when she isn't. My wife on the other hand, will probably be driving it like a standard Cooper for awhile - she didn't go from 5th to 6th on the test drive even after being told about it because she is so used to her Saturn! I'm hopeing that by the time we go to get our next vehicle she has so fallen in love with the MINI that she decides we should look at another MINI. Of course, that is a complete impossibility unless they do make a bigger one that can be seen as more of a "family transport" to her...

Yep, same w/my wife. I enjoy the S for the "whine", she enjoys the torque so she can just chug along MOST of the time...but she does enjoy hauling a** once in a while. But the extra torque means you can drive it with short shifts and just cruise..something harder to do with the lesser torque of the Cooper.

Both are fun...one will just get you a ticket faster
