MCS gas cap

Hello:

I ran a search but wasn't sure the answer I saw. Does the S model have a lockable gas cap? Please don't laugh  .

The gas cap itself is not lockable.

The external chromed cover locks when the car is locked with the key or remote, but not when the doors auto lock when first driving off.

Yep, what he said. I was a bit confused at first as well.

The gas cap is locked when the doors are locked.

When doors are unlocked, the gas cap is unlocked.

Wow - I've had my car for three years and never knew that!

Guess I've only opened it at the gas station after getting out, but I've never tried to open it with the doors locked

Thanks. I had the concern of having some punks walking by my parked and locked Mini and decided to give me some free "gas". By looking at pic, it looks like a regular gas cap that's not lockable. What kind of mechanism does it use, a metal stud? And thanks for laughing SCMCS

When the car is locked a pin extends and prevents the cover from being opened. If someone were to get the cover open the actual gas cap would be able to be opened.

As mentioned above, the pin does not extend to lock the cover when the doors auto lock when first driving away.

Thats great

I did not know the gas cap locked. I was kind of worried with the price of gas that someone would try to steal my premium gas. And I will be putting that in soon as I pick up the car this Saturday!!!

Wait a sec Pamlico, I thought only the MC has the cover that's body color, but the MCS has a chrome gas cap, but no cover, right? Does that mean the MCS still has a lockable cap when you lock the door?

On the MCS (coupe ONLY), the gas cap cover is the chrome piece you've been looking at. It swings out to the left to reveal the actual gas cap, which is the usual twist-off black plastic deal. The chrome cover locks whenever you lock the car, but the actual cap itself (underneath) is never locked. It doesn't need to be, the cover protects it.

On ALL other new MINIs (MC, MCC and MCSC), the gas cap cover is the body-color "almost flat" piece that covers the entire gas cap area.

For the record, I am trying to find an owner of an '05 or '06 Hyper Blue MC, MCC or MCSC (HB not available in previous years) who wants to trade their flush gas cap cover for my chrome one. I hate chrome and I want to minimize it on my car!
