Help! I got noise problem.

Hi! Just went over 1200 mi break-in period today. Of course followed the break-in rule religiously. Never passed 3500 rpm nor 75 mph before 900 mile mark. Then started to increase the rpm and the top speed daily by 500 rpm and 5 mph every 100 miles.

Today at 1200 mi on odometer I broke 100 mph and revved it upto 6000 rpm. I couldn't resist anymore. Anyway here's the problem I'm hearing. When passed 100mph I started to hear noise coming from center console mostly and some from front of the windshield. I'm guess it's air vent noise at higher speed, but it's not gradual at all. Then today I went to Mini dealer service to verify the problem, but the guy tells me it's the wind noise??? Obviously we didn't test drive the car.

Anyone else with this symptons? Are all minis vulnerable to this wind noise over 100mph like he suggested or what??? Please feel free to jump in as I'm new to this car and 100mph wind noise. Thanks.

simply turn on the recirculation system for the vents. (bottom right button)

it closes the vents that suck air from the outside and you wont hear any more of the wind noins you get at 80+mph

Actually the recirculate on my MC I had would help to make such a noise at speed in excess of 70mph.

Now I'm even more confused At the dealer the service guy simply told me to keep the vent downward to reduced the noise, but I don't know. I gotta hit mo' 100+ mph soon to verify this problem if consistant. Am I just paranoid about this wind reflection noise of hood vents near the windshield??? Or I'm just not used to this kind of wind noise at higher speed???

I'm going with that one. Yesterday as I was doing 100+ (about 115 man that was fun) I started to hear a bit of a whistle from the front. I don't know where it was coming from. The windows and sunroof were open and everything in the car was off.

So yes there might be some additional noise associated with higher speeds.

close the windows and vents and iot should be pretty quiet all things considered. I cruise at 80 - 100 regularly and dont notice any abmormal wind noise that isnt there at 70. Maybe you have a loose trim part or something catching the wind and making noise??

Or maybe you have never been over 100 before and it caught you off guard ( just mesin with ya )

Pretty quiet considered is what I had in mind. As I mentioned before this wind noise increases drastically after 100+mph. Having driven every GTI (8V, 16V, G40, VR6, 1.8T) except the Rabbit one I never experienced such aerodynamic phenomenon. After all both cars are boxy shape which can be comparable. Although I heard about the aero wall at higher speed like Ford SVT trucks, but the MCS is much more lower, smaller and flushier in the back unlike the Lightning.

Funny detlman. I wish that was the problem. Now I would like to know if all Minis do make more wind noise than other cars. What are your opinions on this?
