My first mini

Always been a small car / hot hatch fan - when I was 10 y/o a neighbor up the road had a 1400cc Mark 3 with the wide body flares. Everything was done to it, it was fully modified & I thought it was the coolest thing ever. But for a reason I don't understand i've never taken an interest in new gen minis until now. & after 6 months of looking this is what I ended up with:

Well looked after, regularly driven with 84K miles. Already have a ton of parts ordered/bought. Its going to be a fully rebuilt rocket once i'm done.

A slicktop too! In the USA, most MINIs were dealer-ordered for inventory, with "popular" options added for increased profit margin. Seems less so in Europe and perhaps Down Under too based on pics viewed on the web. Looking forward to subsequent updates!

Kia ora Brad,

Where are you in NZ? I grew up in Napier. Wish I had some of those quiet back country roads here for some MINI fun. 84 k miles - was it imported from Britain or did you just convert from km?

cheers

Heyya, Waikato here. Was a japanese import, loads of NZ minis are. They love them over there & we love buying their second hand stock. I looked for about 6 months before buying that one up there, test drove different minis all over the nth island, it was the pick of the bunch. Supercharged S are still coming up for sale, but not many of them are mint. I missed out on one that was genuinely mint for sale at Turners (in Napier!) by just one day - its had the perfect ownership history, I should have realized. But this one I have now is a good'un too.

If you havent been back to NZ during the last 5 years our roads have suffered dramatically. The greens got into power with labour & they didnt want any extra money spent on roading. So combined with our dead stupid 58 ton weight limit for heavy trucks the roads have gone downhill all over the country. Each year its gotten worse but during 2022 it became apparent everywhere.

So this is going to be my first car ever to get equipped with Ohlins. Love their gear in bikes, but their price for car kits is eye watering. You just cant live with low hard setups here anymore.
