I picked up a 2011 Cooper S and was curious if there's an easy way to tell if it's been tuned?
A friend gave me a ride to check it out and subsequently buy, it in his totally stock r56 S and mine is noticeably faster.
The obvious mods are an intake, intercooler piping kit, blow off, a mid pipe, and an exhaust that has jcw stamped on it but has very oem looking rounded tips which seems off bc I haven't been able to find a pic online of something similar.I didn't think those kind of simple mods would make more than ~10 HP, so my first thought was maybe it's tuned. Any help would be appreciated
See if you can get hold of a boost gauge. If its tuned, you should be seeing ~18-20 psi. Stock Cooper S boost is ~10-12 psi, sometimes 1-2 more depending on load.
It possible you have a JCW muffler added onto the exhaust. Do the tips look like these:
Well, you could use a vin decoder to confirm what it started life as. Pics of the engine bay would also help others determine possible engine and mods.
