Questions before ordering a MCSC
Questions before ordering a MCSC
This is my first post ever on a mini forum
I've got a lot of learning to do about these cars, but I know my wife really wants one so we are ordering an S convertible. I'm looking forward to it, too!
I have a couple of questions I'd like to ask:
1. Can you turn off the MCS (or whatever the traction control is called) from inside the car, or is it always on? Any comments on this system would be apreciated. Right now I doubt we will get it on or car.
2. Any common complaints or concerns I should know about?
3. How are the other mini forums? mini2.com and teammightyminiz?
4. Has anyone had any luck negotiatiing the mark up?
Thanks!
Jon

The DSC (dynamic stability control) can be turned off. If you do some searching, you can read of member exploits with the DSC on and off. It is definately a plus to have, yet there are times when it isn't warranted.
Welcome to NAM. Look around, kick the tires, ask a few questions. We are here to help and suck you into the crazy lifestyle!

The mark-up is negotiable. You negotiate with the California dealer of your choice and then order your car from Mini of the Hamptons (like me) or Julie at Classic Mini in Ohio (like many others). Each are a great way to pay MSRP or even a $500 discount currently if you buy from in stock cars.
My car has been trouble free. Others have had a few problems, but most have been fixed and are satisfied MINI drivers.
Good luck in your quest!

Jon-
Aloha from Honolulu! I bought my '04 MCS Works back in July and have had no major problems other than some very minor warranty work to fix loose intercooler screws, loose interior passenger door cup, and peeling paint on the dual cup holder.
Just got the JCW '05 upgrade installed and it's good to go.
I've been on NAM since October '04 and have found it to be the easiest to navigate. Also the folks are super cool!
Didn't have the opportunity to negotiate when I bought my MCS. I didn't want to wait 4-5 months and opted to take delivery of an Indie Blue MINI that was unattached. No complaints and my MA Mary Q. did a great job at MINI of Hawai'i.
Aloha and good luck!

Welcom MiniPooper! I moved to the S convertible from a regular MINI. Both have been wonderful cars. The big "issue" with the convertible is the blind spot that exists when backing up. You may want to test drive the convertible before ordering it if that would be a concern for you or your wife.
I personally like MINI2 and NAM. MINI2 has a more international audience, with a strong UK user community. It can provide interesting perspectives but can be confusing because there are differences in how the car options are packaged in different countries. This can lead to well intentioned but irrelevant advice sometimes.

DSC can certainly be turned off. Right next to the driver's window is a toggle switch with DSC over it, flip that switch and it's off.
Not every dealership will have an MSRP Mark Up! Therefore you might not need to negotiate.
Happy MINI hunting!
