One small step closer

I got a call from my MA yesterday evening. We now have a production number. Yeah! But it is not scheduled for production until February. Bummer! Still a long way to go but at least now it is a little more real than just a handshake at the dealer.

Here are the specs: MCSc, PS/Blk, Cold weather package, Chrome line interior and exterior, Anthracite dash, Cockpit chrono pack, Auto AC, Black leatherette, 16" V-spoke wheels, DSC, Fog lamps, Cruise.

cafejane,

One step closer is moving in the right direction.
A journey of a thousand miles starts with one step.
Nobody mentioned how long it might take.

Ever wait for a little baby to pop out?
This will be faster.
Human baby of course.
Usually less painful if it is not your own.

Can I ask how long it took from the handshake to the prod. number?

I shook hands and dropped off my spec with a deposit check on December 4th. My MA says my order was put "in the MINI system" on Dec 7th (same day my check was cashed) and that I should have received an email from MINI soon thereafter. I've emailed and called several times, eache time with the response that "I should have heard from MINI by now and they'll look into it and get back to me, but I'm on order as of Dec 7th." I'm still trying to get a production number so that I can feel a part of the family.

Is is it typical for this process to seem so nebulous?

Steve

We faxed our credit app and our order information on Saturday Dec. 4th. A week later our MA told us our credit app was approved and that we were given the last spot our dealer had for February production. She said we would probably receive the production number in the mail at the beginning of January but she then called us yesterday and gave it to us over the phone. I have not received any official letter or e-mail from MINI but using the production number on the MINIUSA web site does show our car on order. I would think your dealer would at least be able to tell you how many orders are ahead of you and based on their production alotment be able to give you an idea of when your production will be. It took a little proding but my dealer did give me this information.

When I looked back in my records I was amazed to see that it has been almost a month already. I thought it had only been a couple of weeks. Maybe this wait won't be so bad afterall.
