Hello from Texas!

Hi all,

I joined this forum last night as I am inching closer to owning my first Mini. I’d love to seek out advice from the pros on two R56 Minis I’ve found if this is the appropriate subforum. Thank you in advance!

Welcome to the forum. Post the details and advice will follow.

My advice is to make sure you are ready for your driving experience to change drastically. With the right roads driving there will be as much of a goal as the destination.

Thanks! I took a test drive with one of the two Minis I did some research in and wow did that sucker fly. Unfortunately it was just in too bad a shape to consider, even before thinking about the tranny, fuel pump, timing chain, etc.

The second one I’m looking at is:

https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/m-Prec...ting=274554054

i ran a CarFax report on it and it’s had routine maintenance done over the years however it got the timing chain, ignition coil, valve cover gasket and oil pan gasket all replaced last July at 102k miles which is a bit of a concern.

I looked at the listing. Wow it looks great. Gets me thinking how can I pull of convincing my wife that we need a 5th car so I can have 2 MINIs.

Look for the latest year of the generation and in the best condition as possible. They made a major improvement in the second generation engine and I am not sure if the 11 or 12 was the first year of the better engine. Money spent buying the best MINI pays off in the long run.

Thanks for your opinion and I will look into the engine. I believe this has the N18 engine. I’m really curious and hope that the members on here would give me any insight on all of the repairs I mentioned at 102k miles.

Welcome to NAM from another member in DFW. Looking at the ad it looks nice. For a 2011 (which does have the N18) it seems to be a decent price. Not too sure about the automatic as I hear they are an Achilles heel on these cars, not that I have any experience with the auto. I am sure many members will disagree. If you like the acceleration of the auto, you will LOVE a standard 6-speed.
