I'll look to see if there is anybody around here that has e85. Good info in those links. Thanks!

Ok, checked your list, and found a Countrymark station, about 7 miles from here, with E85. Only problem is, I don't get over there very often. The town I work in has none that I know of.

What about running 91, or possibly a mix of 93 and 91? I'm not sure if I can switch in the middle of pumping, or if I would have to pay separately for both gasoline's.

I may look for the Techron tomorrow at a parts store..

BTW, a few years ago I got to work on a 68 Olds Delmont 88 convertible, with the original 455 in it. I think it had either a 25 or 30 gallon tank. That thing was huge! Beautiful car, blue with the original white top. Had to set the timing in it, because the owner put in new points, and didn't know how to time it. I got it running for them, although it really needed a set of head gaskets. It was an awesome car.

2 separate transactions is the way I have to go with e85 mix, a bit of a pain, but money saved. I personally use Shell 93 when I’m not mixing. I will drive 2 miles past a BP to get to it. You probably would be fine with a good 93 from a big brand since the add their own additives. Everyone is going to have their own opinion on this and you honestly might just be wasting money with the Techron.

It would definitely help get rid of any gunk in the engine. I've seen what carbon buildup in an engine looks like...not pretty. Very hard to get out of an engine valley (V6 4.3). Think it might get better gas mileage? Car is already good on gas.

Don’t really know if this will help, but I got 450 miles on the e85 mix, this was mostly 55 to 85 mph. It was the first time I have let the gas tank get that low, said I had around 70 miles left, and my gas gauge turned red for first time. When it gets around to the third line on gauge, I’m typically looking for gas, when on trips. If a typical work week I have a ritual. Thursday at lunch I run over to my trusty gas stations and fill up. Once I’m home I let her cool down for an hour or two. Once she is cool enough then I empty OCC, check and top off any fluids. I know it might seem like much, but she has 142,000 on the clock, and it is basically ready for the week ahead. If my daughter is at her mom’s for the weekend then the wife and I enjoy the mini for the weekend. I drive hard during the week, typically see 85+ mph on highway to and from work 4 days a week, I get to work from home on Friday’s, sport mode only and If dry traction control off.

That is some really good mileage. I will try to run some e85 in the near future, when I get over to where it is. In the meantime, I will try running some 93 and see what that does. BTW, sorry to sound dumb, but what is OCC?

OCC - Oil Catch Can

I have a mod or two done on the performance side, hence why I check it over as much as I do.

That sounds like a lot of blow by...is that normal with these engines?

I put in 93 octane today, and it felt like a performance boost! Maybe I was imagining things, but it did seem to run better. I'm going to have to be careful not to get a speeding ticket, especially in town!

the n14 is known to burn some oil. When I was letting the car warm up I was collecting a lot more than now, I’m not letting it run for 5 to 10 minutes before driving and this has cut it down by more than half. I have the pcv blocked off on passenger side that runs to intake manifold, and occ on the other side. So I have been running this for 4000 trouble free miles and it’s my way to make sure everything is still good.

From what I understand, this is the N18 engine. This doesn't burn oil like the N14, does it?

Just be careful not to have too much crankcase pressure, or it could blow the pan off..

she’ll be fine, cutting down on oil on intake valves. No cel and I drive her hard. Did 2 trips down to the the dragon the last 2 weekends. Burned a qt of oil, caught 1/4 qt oil/gas mix in can. There was a lot of high revs on the dragon due to only being in 2nd and third gears. 85 to 110 mph on way home for 4.5 hours with an occasional stop to pee, wife and daughter have baby bladders. My mini loves to drive, it glides at 85 plus, wife was surprised when we hit 110, she Was amazed how smooth it was and that it got there so quick.

As for the gas, I too felt a difference on the e85 mix, but it’s all probably in our heads.

Do you think it would hurt to run 91? I don't want to run this too hard. It has got to last me a while.

Always run the highest Octane you can like 93 in Indiana as we have found the lower octane to contribute to burnt valves. And may also contribute to carbon build up

I’m going to run 93 or e85/93 mix. I know it’s hard to stay off the skinny pedal but I like how it runs and the gas mileage isn’t any different.
