Hey everyone! I just joined today although I've been scanning the website the last few days for ideas on replacing my Harman Kardon stereo since my amp went dead during my commute to work 3 days ago.

I purchased my 2003 MCS back in the fall of 2010. Minis always made me do a double take when they passed by so eventually I gave in and got one. When I first got my car there were no mufflers on my car so it was realllly loud. Not long after dealing with how loud it was I had mufflers put back on. Blaring music on the highway to hear over the exhaust got old pretty quick.

About a year after having my car, it was overheating so I took it to a local mechanic that worked on foreign imports and he said he could fix it. A lot of $ later it seemed to be running fine until this past December (overheating again). Took my car into a Mini dealer and had the mechanic take a look at it and I guess there was a tiny crack in the head so he put in a new head and head gasket. Finally...it seems to be running great.

This week I had another bump in the road when it comes to my mini, the HK amp went dead. Now comes the decision on what to do with the stereo. I bought a new HU (Kenwood KDC-BT955HD CD Receiver) so I'll probably end up replacing everything else. I'm open to suggestions.

I love driving this car so hopefully no more headaches once the stereo is taken care of...fingers crossed!

Welcome aboard. As far as replacing the HK stereo, you would need to rewire the entire system. It is not just a plug and play job. I literally mean you have to rewire everything.
Now you can get one of these to make life easier

Do a search on the Harman Kardon system and you will see lots of threads about it.

Good luck and welcome aboard. How about some pics.

Thanks Braminator!

As for the HK enabler, that would require me to replace my HK amp right?

Posted a few pics below...I'll upload more later!
