2006 Base New to MINI

Hi, I'm new to this brand as of last night. Pics to follow shortly as it was dark when I got it home.

I'm a long time hot rod, BMW, motorcycle collector/hobbyist. I can't wait to dig into this thing...178k miles, needs quite a bit of bodywork, it looks like a tree branch fell on it. A few rust holes that I need to tackle. It needs a new hood, but in the back it looks like a scratch in the paint went to full on body rot in a very isolated area. It's a very easy fix for me but I'm wondering if these cars use extra thin metal?

There are a TON of swirl marks in the glass...is this common?

Needs a muffler: Would I be able to install a muffler from an S model?

CEL is lit, I'm going to pull codes but I'm assuming it has original O2 sensors so I'll just install them from the get-go.

Thanks for maintaining what looks to be a great Site!

Hello and welcome.

1. Nope, unless its the rear glass from the wiper.
2. Easier/cheaper to get an aftermarket exhaust that fits an R50, I have an R52 Cooper and a good performance exhaust makes it sound great.
3. Get a scanner, like the schwaben one we have, find out the code first. Then go from there

Hope that helps.

5 speed base model. I just received my muffler, camshaft position sensor, and 2 O2 sensors. She should be purring this Saturday, I look forward to a quiet, more responsive drive.

Nice looking ride! I’ve toyed with the idea of red with a black roof, but have ended up ordering over time two blue MINI’s with white roofs. Hope you’re on the road soon!
