Hello,i am looking to buy a used mini.
My budget is up to 2008-2009 models.
So i want automatic mini.
I read that if i want automatic is better to choose between 2005/6 (1st gen)standar cooper or from 2007-2010 (2nd gen)standar cooper.
Also to avoid S models from 2nd gen.
Can you help me with this aspect?
Thank you!
OK, I see the MOD moved you post to a better location. Now as to your question

So sad you want an auto IMO .... but OK
In a GEN1 you want to avoid early years because they had a not very good CVT tranny. There are good CVT auto tranny out there but that's not the one MIN used once you get away from the CVT the auto in a MINI is OK I guess but as I only have had slush I can't comment
So far as avoiding "S" in GEN2 I can only guess this is from the timing chain guide issues of the N14 engine? I had a 2007 S for 100,000 miles and had NO engine issues. I have a GEN2 Roadster S with NO issues. Avoiding a car that's been 'driven hard and put to bed wet' is a good idea . . .

For MCS 2007-2010 , i have read about timing chain for n14 engine.
But except this problem, better for me as new driver better not to go for 1600 and ~180hp.
So its ok to choose 7/8/9/10 model of standar MINI auto?
So if i want auto MINI its ok
I have an 09 clubman s, with n14. I don’t know why everyone is so afraid of this engine. Block off the hose from valve cover to intake, then put on oil catch can on intake side. Granted I’m the third owner, but I drive her hard and she wants more. If you find one where the timing chain was replaced already then enjoy your next 100,000 miles.

Thanks for your opinion.I was decide to search about 2007-2010 model of R56,standar Cooper auto.
I have one more question, what i have to choose the models with 1600cc engine ~115-120hp or that 1400cc with 95hp?
Go for the higher horsepower. You will have more fun. I have a gen 3 with the smaller 1.5 L engine, but has more horsepower than the two you mentioned. I think you would be disappointed with the 1400cc engine.
