Bought my 1st Mini

Hi, everyone. Bought my first Mini last week. I used to admire the Mini when bringing my BMW in for service. It is a 2015 4 Dr hardtop auto, black on black, with 32,000 miles on it. Runs great. What a fun car to drive. I especially like sports mode. I have 17 inch runflats, which I am familiar with, as I drove my BMW 3 series for 7 years, which had the runflats. That car was fun, but this is more so. I got the 4 Dr because I travel a lot, and bring my dog. The first thing I am going to do to it is upgrade the stereo system. Anyone have ideas on the least expensive way to get better sound? Looking forward to learning more about the car on here, and getting to know some of you.

Kat

Welcome.

What stereo is in the car now? HK or base sound.

I can tell you how to make it sound great and waste lots of $$$ buying things that probably you don't need.
After my adventures were over I determined that amplifier should have been first, then if needed upgrade speakers. Sub-woofer and amp or just plain powered sub-woofer really helps, somewhat dependent on what you listen to. I also added a DSP from parts express which was inexpensive and allows for a Bluetooth direct to DSP connection as well as a wired one. I wasted way too much cash at Bavsound on overpriced speakers. Those speakers are fine, except for the most part it seems like they are going with slightly more efficient units to make everything sound a bit richer. More power to the existing speakers might have done the trick.

You might also have to tackle how the music is being processed into the system. The basic digital audio converter in my car with the HK system is garbage. Everything sounds better through my phone with Bluetooth.

I'm not related in any way to Parts Express, but they have a lot of good stuff at lower prices than many other sources.

Thanks for responding. It has the basic sound system with 6 speakers and I believe a subwoofer under the back seat.

They don't put sub-woofers in MINIs from factory. You might have woofers under the front seats, although they aren't subs. Maybe someone added a sub along the way. With enough power the under seat woofers sound pretty good, but not really capable as subs.

You might want to go to a local installer to see what you have and what they recommend and then come back here or one of the DIY mobile audio forums for a reality check on what local shop recommends.

good place to see what you have https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/par...i-Cooper&mg=65

Congrats on your new 2015 Mini! I can't really help with your stereo upgrade questions, other than to say there is a separate forum dedicated to Audio and Navigation in the 3rd Generation section of the forum pages.

My wife and I both have 2015 Minis. She previously had a 2014 Clubman, but when the 4-door came out in 2015 she realized that was what she really wanted, so she ordered one in Moonwalk Gray with the JCW interior and loves it. I just replaced my 2003 Mini a little over a month ago with a 2015, and am really happy with the upgrade. Previously, I had a BMW like you, but mine was a 2015 M235i. My biggest surprise with the F56 Mini is how much it is the same as the BMW - same Auto Start/Stop system, same iDrive system (called Mini Connected in the Mini), same climate system (with no sync feature!), same dash and seat materials - the Mini is a BMW-lite.

Good luck with yours and welcome to the forum!

Congrats on the F55 they are really good cars. We have a few speaker upgrade kits, but trying to do more than that is much harder and more expensive with the incorporated electronics to the radio.

a speaker upgrade kit would do the trick, I think. PM me some choices, if you don’t mind.

Congrats! They are fun! Particularly on the curvey roads. I just got mine 4 weeks ago. Makes a great mobile office too.
