Lots of 1st’s
Hello all-
I’m Angelique. 1st time here. I’m from Southern California, Claremont specifically.
I was looking for something fun to drive with a manual trans to break up the monotony a commute to DTLA brings.
problem solved—
I just bought my 1st MINI - !!!
2005 Cooper S. 6spd Black Hardtop Coupe.
Beautiful inside and out.
Price was perfect- @$2300 I thought it was a great deal. (??)
Previous owner obviously loved it and it had a place in the garage most definitely.
it does have over over 170k miles, which is the ONLY thing that does raise an eyebrow.
Im told that the MINIS are known for longevity and typically ,can easily go for double that if properly maintained,(?)
so I’m super hopeful
I have lots of questions; Googled the ASC switch and found NAM!
I’m excited to learn more about my car and the MINI community

Welcome, and congrats on the new R53 MINI Cooper S. Lots of info here and maybe the largest pool of MINI info in the world just on this forum.

Hi and welcome to NAM. Gen 1s will last a very long time. 170K miles is nothing, f you keep it maintained! Use only full synthetic oils, replace the trans oil with synthetic oil, like Redline MTL. The supercharger may need servicing (needs oil changed). Get help from folks in your area, that belong to a Mini Club.
These cars will easily see over 300K miles, if maintained. We have seen 650K miles on one here.
I have an 06 MCS JCW model I daily drive, it has 160 K miles on it and still runs great!

Chips kept popping into my brain,-almost went with Mr Chips- but he does seem to like Mr Hill, his new home and his new driver!

As stated numerous times: "Without pictures, it didn't happen". Welcome to the clan. Some demanding advice; wave, pay close attention to it's fluids at least weekly. Not knowing your experience with a manual gear box, I'll add this. Keep your foot off the clutch except to shift and clear to the floor when shifting. At traffic stops shift to neutral and foot off the pedal. All that will greatly increase the life span of the clutch and throw out bearing. But, most importantly, have fun.

Welcome!
Yes, I favor the R53s and don't let the high miles worry you, maintenance is the answer there (oil changes) the best way to keep it running for a long time (I do mine at about the 3.5K range.)
Currently #24 has over 265000 miles and #211 has just over 165000, #81 has a lowly 72000 miles.
Best of all, you get to....
