Welcome to the forum. I hope you stick around and add to the conversation. Your perspective should be a great addition.

While WMW is accurate that they are totally different cars, I would be interested in hearing your perspective of the similarities and differences beyond the obvious difference. How close do you feel they honored the go-cart drive of the first generation in the latest generation?

Let me create a MINI timeline for you, then i will let you know my thoughts:

2005-2013 I drove my 2005 MINI Cooper S, JCW suspension. I loved that car and still so. I will never get rid of it. Some minor problems here and there until it just needed to much done to no longer be a reliable car for me to use every day. She has 150,000 miles.

2013-2014 I drove a 2012 Cooper S. It was a pile of crap. Replaced the motor twice!! I will never own that year again!!!

2014-2018 I drove a 2014 Countryman. Loved the car but it was gutless!!! In order to get extra power I had to turn off the a/c, which, living in a desert, is terrible!

Enter the 2019!!! I drove a few new MINI’s and fell in love with the Clubman. I always told myself I would never own one, but it’s great! It’s not an S, but that was deliberate because I just didn’t see the need for it. It is very zippy, has great pick-up, roomy, and just easy to drive. I love the added features such as heated seats, MINI connected (even though it’s having difficulty staying connected), extra boot space, and just the overall ease of use.

Although im no expert, I’ve driven a few MINI’s and know what I like and what I don’t. I absolutely love the 2019 Clubman! It is so much fun!!!!

also, if I’m being honest, nothing will come close to the 2005. It is like driving a giant toy! But this new one comes close! I do like the smoother ride over the 2005. I like that they went back to their roots in creating this new one!

It is good to hear that they are not straying too far from their roots. I would think that MINI should always have a car as small or smaller than the original. While it would not sell in huge numbers, it would support the brand image of "mini".

By the way. Great looking family. You look like a group that enjoys life!

Hey! Your 05 has onlyn150K on it. I am sure there is nothing keeping it from being dependable again, unless the engine went bad.We have see a 2002 with 650 Kand still driving on the original engine. If we can help you get it going again, go to the gen 1 area and ask for help!
I am glad you stuck with the brand, ad the second gen 1 cars are plagued with issues in the engine. What was BMW thinking, when they went with Pugot!
Anyway the gen 1 cars do not have that flaw and can be a dependable car, way into high, high mileage!
Congrats again on your new Mini. Keep us posted on how it does too!
