Hi Everyone,

My name is Jaz and I am a MINI addict from Australia.

In around 2005 my partner and I test drove a MINI Cooper S and was instantly hooked. Trouble is they are so expensive over here, even older second hand. So after years of patiently waiting, a few months ago I purchased an original British Racing Green late 2002 R53 for the right amount. It was in need of some serious maintenance work as it had been neglected for many years, plus required the head gasket replacing after being overheated. The good part is I am a licensed motor mechanic so it was only parts costs to get back into shape.

It took about a month if work to be ready for registration and the work done included all cooling hoses, head gasket, supercharger dismantle, clean off the flaky teflon coating and replace a couple of seals. Sump gasket and many other seals, full service then various other odds and ends.

I seriously love this car and just can't stop driving it. I have owned many custom and unique cars over the years and by far I enjoy the MINI the most.

Thanks for listening,

Jaz

Hi and welcome to NAM, jaz! Great looking 02 MCS! It is good you know how to keep these little rockets going, as it will last you a very long time. For me, they are the most fun to drive, of any of the many cars I have owned (too many to count!). Being a Mini enthusiast enhances our lives and become a family member to most of us. The first gens are the rawest and most fun of any of them. Newer ones can be faster, but Minis are made to handle great in the twisties and the supercharger keeps them with even power, so cornering is maximized.
Glad you finally got the one you wanted!
Tons of info, in the gen 1 section, to help you keep it running like new! Again, welcome to NAM!

Congratulations on your new addition. With all the work done over the Winter, you are ready to enjoy it as the Summer approaches.

Thanks Guys,

The first generation I think is the nicest. Just love that supercharger sound and the smaller overall body size.

It is a nice car this one and I plan on keeping it in the long term. Apart from a new stereo and a 15% supercharger pulley I will be keeping it factory. There is no reason why this car won't outlast me if I take care of it.

Cheers,

Jaz

Welcome, Nice to see another MCS BRG w/ BRG top. Someone else just posted up today here. I also like how the aussie MINIs have the large TACH.
