R50/53 Aussie cops return to the MINI/Mini

This is from the Sydney Morning Herald.
"The NSW police really do have a brand new Mini, the first in the fleet since the 1970s (Column 8, Wednesday). The City Central Local Area Commander, Superintendent Gary Hodsdon, says the marked Mini is only used by the community safety team "when visiting schools and businesses and attending neighbourhood meetings where crime prevention strategies are discussed"."
As a bit of background, New South Wales cops used a few classic Mini Coopers as highway patrol cars during the early 70s. I expect it used to **** off the V8 drivers to get pulled over by "a flying brick".
