Hello from Maryland!
Hey all, I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm brand new to the Mini world, but so far I'm loving it. I picked it up as my "commuter" car, since I drive a big ol' pickup truck. In reality, I've always wanted a Mini, ever since they came to the US, and I finally got the chance to own one! I picked up a 2007 Cooper S a few weeks back, and I'm already looking at some minor mods. First ones on the list are a cravenspeed short shifter, and preventative maintenance (got to keep it running!). from there, we'll see. the options are endless.
. Frederick County here - 06 MCS.

Welcome the forum and MINI ownership. There are some great roads in northern Harford County, but if you get tired of the local roads, there are more curves and less traffic and fewer police north of the boarder.

To back up Whine not Walnuts post, The timing chain guides are plastic and fail. You don't want this to happen, or your fun will be over. The plastic guides get hard over time and break up, causing the valves and pistons to meet up and that is not a good thing!
Also, make sure to change the oil with full synthetic and often, like every 5000 miles!

Thanks! As for the timing chain guide issues and I’m looking into replacing them soon just to be safe. Is it a pretty straight forward replacement process? Is there anything I should replace while I’m in there?

thanks! I’m in Harford County, which is full of back country roads, so I’m having a blast. If I get bored, I’ll head your way!
Welcome to the neighborhood. My first Mini was a '07 MCS too. You can buy the whole timing cassette rebuild kit from your, or any Mini dealer. just look for the best deal. You can also get the dealer to check the play in your timing chain. If you still have the original tensioner and depending on the miles, they may replace it all on their dime. They did for me when I had 120K miles on the car. There's info on here somewhere about a class action lawsuit about timing chain issues.
