Being 2018 it's obviously a 3rd gen but what are the tags R54, R56 I see around the forums? Which (if any) apply to me?

F56 is your number. R is second generation.

Had any Mini's in the past? If not, what made you decide to order one? Stick, Auto, what options?

The first two generations used the "R" prefix for the models, in 2014 when BMW placed their own motor in the car, the "F" designation started. This was the start of what we call the Gen3 cars.

 

It's my first MINI, so I loaded it up. Just about everything but leather seats.


I have always liked the size and styling of the MINI lineup. When car buying opportunities came up over the last 6-7 years the wife always complained that the car was too expensive to add to our garage.


This summer the wife is out the door (divorce in progress) and a new MINI is on it's way in. Let this be a lesson to the ladies. If he can afford a MINI, let him get a MINI
